When I drank, Gin Martini....

I love to have a Martini,
two at the very most,
three, I'm under the table,
four, I'm under my host.

Oh Boy!

French martini is probably my fav but, I like others also. Wine, Coors light, depends on my mood.

Chocolate martini's are the bomb too!

Actually, I kind of liked Zima.

Well, I guess "Liked" is too strong a word. I didn't mind Zima. Besides, if I went to a party and there was a cooler full of various beverages, nobody else wanted the Zima so I didn't have to fight for it.

As I said earlier, I'm not a great fan of gin, but I'd gladly try a Lime Drop (or two even) (three if you insist).

Lime Drops

That lime drop recipe seems to run along the same lines as the mystery gimlet I'm trying to recreate--only I think it would taste even better! I may have to try my hand at one of those. Sure wish I had a lime tree instead of a kumquat in my back yard!

Rich, you should host a wash-in while there are still limes on the tree! The men get sloshed while the clothes get washed. Adds an interesting twist to the wash-in scene, no? OK, one bad pun is enough. I'll stop before it gets worse.

Tsingtao Beer

I used to drink the Tsingtao beer back in the mid-80's, generally during business lunches at local Chinese restaurants. It's a good beer, similar to dutch lagers. I recall a little advertising placard provided with the beer, that stated that Tsingtao used to have a substantial German immigrant population, which is how the brewery got started.

Zima

I remember Zima from the 80's. It was ok, but never quite lived up to the heavy pre-release hype it got. I like the bottles, with their clear glass and elegantly fluted sides. I thought it was supposed to be a type of beer - brewed like a beer, supposedly. As I recall it was sort of like a sweet beer with no hoppy bitterness. A bit like Bud, lol.

Zima

always sounded like some kind of skin condition you should see your doctor about. Couldn't they have come up with a better name?

I don't drink as much as I used to when I was younger, but after a long trip a Bacardi & Coke works well for me. I only use the light rum. Dark rums give me the hangover from hell for several days afterwards.

Also, a shot of Southern Comfort with 7-Up on the side is good.

I drink beer, usually a good German Weissenbier if I can find it. The Hefe Weissens just don't cut it.

I like Gin in the summertime, very refreshing. Boodles is also my favourite with Bombay being second. But no lime, no go. To me Gin reminds me of Christmas Trees.

And let's not forget the national drink of Brazil, Cachaca. Mixed with fresh squeezed lime and a little bit of sugar and lots of ice is great. But most of the time we cheat and use that Simply Lime lime juice instead. Less labor intensive.

Meyer Lemon Drop

It is what it sounds like. Instead of limes,

1 oz fresh Meyer Lemon Juice
1 oz Tanqueray
2 heaping tsp sugar

Shake to dissolve sugar

Add 3-4 ice cubes

Shake till all chilled

Pour into suitable martini glass, enjoy.

(Meyer lemons are a somewhat milder version of the typical Eureka lemon. Not quite as aromatic, but a bit sweeter.)

Next up: Sanguinelli blood orange drop!

Wow Rich, that Meyer recipe is a keeper! I love Meyers just quartered straight off the tree and since I am getting rid of my huge and prolific kumquat, I will be getting a Meyer to replace it with soon. I'm only more addicted to Mandarins when those are in season.

I've never been one for hard liquor, but I do like a Margarita when eating at a Mexican restaurant, or lounging by a resort pool. And once a year the "alumni" of the bar I used to work at get together and have a shot of really good tequila in the owner's memory, but that's about it.

Ooo - and Baileys and Coffee at Christmas. That's always nice.

Other than that, I mostly drink wine. (Good for the heart, don't ya know ;-) and the occasional beer.

My partner hardly ever drinks - leaving me to feel like the lush in the family - but when he does, he likes VO and other brown liquors, which I have never understood the appeal of.

Ralph,

Your post gave me an idea. Instead of an olive in the Meyer Lemon Drop, I'm gonna put a Meiwa kumquat on a toothpick and stick that in the glass!

Photos to follow next time I imbibe!

Bloody Jenny

1 jigger Sanguinelli Blood Orange juice

1 jigger Tanqueray Gin

1 tsp sugar

Shake until sugar dissolved

Add 3-4 ice cubes, shake until chilled

Serve in martini glass

So enticing, I can almost taste it--what a sinfully gorgeous

To answer your query, Laundress:

All of the above and preferably all on the same day

Thanks Mickey, but please practice moderation.

In any case, perhaps "Bloody Nellie" would be a better name for a drink made of gin and SanguiNELLI blood orange juice.

And although it was almost as tasty as it looked, tonight I've gone back to the Lime Drop. Juice of about 2 limes per glass - loaded with vitamin C. Perfect way to fend off both the winter chill and the winter blues!
