Kenmore1978: The good news is, the car has less miles than I do! ;)

Got a great vintage Westinghouse chrome toaster at the thrift store yesterday, an avocado green juice picture w/4 juice glasses, and some great cookbooks (1946, 1957, 1965), and a black porcelain roaster. The PT held all beautifully. Will post a pic of the toaster to try to guess it's age.

Cookbooks...

What cookbooks did you find? I've been watching out for vintage Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks since finding the very first edition from 1930 at a sale. I have a few now, from 1930, 1936, late 40's, 60's, etc. They are fun to find and the changes through the years are very interesting to see. The very early ones had no pictures or illustrations and conversion information for coal/wood stoves.

Latest finds

Good Housekeeping Cookbook 1955
Sunset Salad Book 1957
Thoughts for Food 1948
Of Food and Thought 1965

They were $1.00 each, except the salad book, which was 50 cents.

There are a lot of older people in our community who used to do lots of cooking. I'll keep my eyes opened for BHG's.

PT Cruisers

When I first saw PT Cruisers at the L.A. Auto show just before they were introduced, I said to my roommate who was with me "this car is going to be a hit". When I asked the guy how much they planned to sell them for, I said "now I KNOW it's going to be hit" I watched as other people asked about the price and you could see that people were really surprised that it was not going to be very expensive.

FYI, did you know that it's not considered to be a "car" by the government, but the new convertible style IS considered to be a "car"?

PT's

It's actually classified as a "wagon". The convertibles were a bit too small; two doors and a couple of roll-bars made it feel "squatty".

For the price, you can't beat 'em. Mine's a turbo with leather, so mama flies when she hits the road :) When there is a garage sale, I have a need for speed.

Venus - I don't see a lot of GH cookbooks, the BH&G or Betty seem to be more popular around here. The 1st ed. 1930 BH&G cookbook was quite a curiosity for people and at $2, quite a find. Robert has a collection of Betty Crocker cookbooks that is very interesting too...

It's funny all the different things we collect, I've really enjoyed these "off topic" threads!

Darrell, handsome mug. Congratulations on the new house. Does it deal with your colleciotn well enough? woudl love for you to list what's all in your collection in your profile.

#54282/ And the Award Goes To

Appnut for his superb performance in the saying catgory of
'JWIN' (just what I needed!) Bob how kind of you! Of course
I will assume that you only expect me to list the larger
moedairn appliances in my profile? Honey I am mortified! Before too long I will attempt to properly update my profile.
But for purposes of "Temporary Tantalization" I have one Easy
Spin, 2 late 50's Kenmores, a matched set of Westinghouse;
they are either L5 or L6 vintage I think. Eventually the new
house should accommodate my collection(s) It is an exciting step up for me. The lot is double my former place (1/4 vs. 1/2
acre) and the house is just under 2x the sq feets 816 vs. 1379) the covered storage is about 31/2 times more. I have my work cut out for me. I hope to make the ott5 convention.
BTW this was my 1st ever pic upload (i am very computerarily
challenged) stay tuned for a shot of the "new" 1-18.
