Quiet Please, There´s a Lady on Stage
Our local light music radio station has been playing Christmas music/carols non-stop since Thanksgiving and will contiune though New Years. It's an annual thing and sort of block most of them out, after all how many times can one hear the same set of songs, over, and over?

But here's me today doing laundry/housework and this little ditty comes on! Being a "New Yawker", quickly got with the beat and finished that last load of ironing that much quickly!

Feel free to join in!

Hey! Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
It's Dominick the donkey.
Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
The Italian Christmas donkey.
(la la la-la la-la la la la la)
(la la la-la la-la la-ee-oh-da)

Santa's got a little friend,
His name is Dominick.
The cutest little donkey,
You never see him kick.
When Santa visits his paisans,
With Dominick he'll be.
Because the reindeer cannot,
Climb the hills of Italy.

Hey! Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
It's Dominick the donkey.
Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
The Italian Christmas donkey.
(la la la-la la-la la la la la)
(la la la-la la-la la-ee-oh-da)

Jingle bells around his feet,
And presents on the sled.
Hey! Look at the mayor's derby,
On top of Dominick's head.
A pair of shoes for Louie,
And a dress for Josephine.
The labels on the inside says,
They're made in Bruccalin'.

Hey! Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
It's Dominick the donkey.
Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
The Italian Christmas donkey.
(la la la-la la-la la la la la)
(la la la-la la-la la-ee-oh-da)

Children sing, and clap their hands,
And Dominick starts to dance.
They talk Italian to him,
And he even understands.
Cummare's and cumpare's
Do the dance 'a tarantell',
When Santa Nicola comes to town,
And brings 'o ciucciarell'.

Hey! Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
It's Dominick the donkey.
Chingedy ching,
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
The Italian Christmas donkey.
(la la la-la la-la la la la la)
(la la la-la la-la la-ee-oh-da)

Hey! Dominick! Buonn Natale!
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
(hee-haw, hee-haw)
(hee-haw, hee-haw)

My new favorite (local) christmas song

Lately on KPOA (which you can hear at KPOA.com) they have been blending in some christmas music along with the regular programming. One of the songs I really like this year is called "Shaka Kalikimaka" by Imua. I don't know all the words well enough to transcribe them here and could not seem to find them on a lyrics search engine. It is a simple song about Christmas here in Hawai'i with one catchy line being "...and a Hau'oli Makahiki Hau-Ho-Ho!" It talks of the lights at Honolulu Hale, and how Santa, in rubber slippa's and an aloha shirt, travels in a koa canoe around the islands, while Mrs Claus is doing a hula in a grass skirt. I hope you mainlanders get to hear it soon.

I also get a kick out of local artist covering holiday songs that have heavy cold weather and snow references. I heard a local uke'lele version of "Winter Wonderland". "In the meadow we can built a snowman..." We can? With what? Oh, all the chipped ice they haul into Lahaina so the kids can see snow for fifteen seconds. I get a kick out of hearing some one with a heavy local accent strumming a slack key guitar singing "Dashing through the snow..." It is the same tickle I get when I hear Jewish artists cover Christmas music (and Phil Spector's Christmas albums is my all time fav!)

Launderess

That is my FAVORITE Christmas song! It always gets me in a Holiday mood and it's my favorite one to sing along to! :)

I was especially happy this year when my 3 year old yelled from the backseat "hee-haw, hee-haw" when he was listening to it!

I never heard Dominick The Donkey until I lived in Massachusetts for a while and it's a riot!

Speaking of Christmas music to do laundry to, I heard a few Christmas songs by Dionne Warwick, the First Lady of Kenmore.

I'm a Christmas song purist. I can't stand remakes. It's gotta be the original.

Jingle Bell Rock has to be Bobby Helms
Rudolph has to be Gene Autry
White Christmas has to be Bing Crosby
Blue Christmas has to be Elvis,
etc.
