Hey Kenmore experts, Help...................

I am ready to get my 72 lady kenmore tl going. Its a keyboard style, with dial stops. Heres the problem. It has a triple disipenser on the top deck. The hose that runs down to the exterior tub leaks. According to Sears, the part # needed is 351394, however NLA. Is there another part # I could use. I have every thing else needed to get this lovely lady going. Help............

Are you talking about the hose that runs from the front bleach compartment to the tub? If so, my suggestion is to order hose number 357006. It is the same hose but used for large capacity models, and is about 3 inches longer. You can either have the slack in the hose, or cut out a section in the center and sleeve it back together.

The other alternative is to try to re-use the old hose and seal it with an adhesive sealer. If you're going to re-use the original, be careful not to rip it or distort when removing it from the machine.

Just for grins I entered the model number for my '72 Lady K in Sears' site and it shows 357006 automatically. Did you check online or were you using an old parts list?

The part # was given to me at the parts store. Obviously he isn't as up on it as you are. Thanks for the help, as I would like to have her up and running in a week or so. I have a very mechanical next door neighbor, who will help me, and his dad who used to work for Sears, as a repairman as well. Luckily, my Brother in Law was as well. Just one more question for you. I have had the machine on its side for a while, and the oil leaked out of the transmission (I think. What oil would I use to replace it, and where is it added, as I have not yet seen an obvious fill hole. Your great words of experience, would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is any fill hole. I think you will have to take the transmission out and open it up in order to put oil in it. I've done it before and it is not that fun of a job.

People have argued with me on here about laying machines on their sides, but this is why one should not do that on a BD Whirlopool/Kenmore. Melvin is right, oil can't be added to a belt-drive gearcase without taking it out of the machine, taking the cam bars off (one of which is spring loaded and a major beetch to get off and on again), then you need 60-weight non-detergent motor oil, which is $20 a bottle from Whirlpool.

How much leaked out?

oil leak

It appears about 1/2 cup leaked out. I think it looks worse to me than it really is. It dosn't have to be much to look like alot. you know how liquid on a flat surface can look. Any advice on this?

BELT DRIVE WASHER OIL LEAK

1/2 cup of oil loss won't cause a problem in all likely hood I would just keep using the washer.You can add oil through the breather hole on the top of the transmission you have to use a hand oil pump with a very small noessell and just pump in the amount of oil you lost. You can also check the oil level through this hole, with the washer sitting up right take a three" piece of straight coat hanger wire and insert it into the breather hole. Rotate the transmission drive pulley until the wire drops in as far as possible into the case the wire may hit the connecting rod. When you pull the wire out you should have from 3/8 to 1/2" of clean yellow oil on the bottom of the coat hanger wire. I always do this on any Bd washer I an fixing up mainly to check the condition of the oil if its white and cloudy or brown and murky you have water in the transmission and the machine needs much more extensive work.
