No, spin driers were never popular for home laundry in the United States. Laundromats and commercial laundries used them and some still do; Bock amoung other brands were fairly common until liablity issues forced a change.
With relative cheap natural resources, vast homes (compared to many places in Europe/UK, and cheap electric power, many American housewives weren't interested in spinning laundry "dry" as they either dried them in a dryer or hung them out on the line.
