I have the same dressers that you have, but my mirror is different. I also have the vanity.

Well over a year into this house and I STILL don't have the mirrors affixed...they both are screwing in rather unwieldly so I am waiting until I have the time to take the drawers out and properly affix those heavy mirrors...I may have to use bolts rather than the screws, so I have more than put it off. When I get the mirrors on I will send pics.

While your pink appears to be wallpaper or a different paint process than mine, the overall pink shade and hue is what I have in my office. Not only does it work well with HW, but pink is a very relaxing color.

Don't feel too bad, Kevin

It's been a year in this house and we still haven't gotten around to either painting the bedroom OR mounting the "floating headboard" (as you can see by the plastic storage containers that are holding it up)

(Note: The bed is usually made up with a spread and everything, but I'm in a cleaning frenzy this morning. The daschshund in the picture is none too happy about that. He takes a rather dim view of housekeeping)

Rome was indeed not built in a day - and if it were left to us, it probably still wouldn't be there, LOL

and headboard. I am trying to put it in perspective...is that a double or queen bed?

It's funny, the eye sees what the mind wants it to see. I didn't even see the trash cans holding it up, even though they are obvious with the label! Not until I re-read your words. The mind just fills in the blanks sometimes.

On my HW headboard, I have it propped up on pieces of wood, as back then, they did not have pillowtopped mattresses. Our mattress not only has huge pillowttops, but they are on both sides, which adds inches in height. So with no adjustments, the bottom of the doors to the headboard are way below the top of the mattress, and the whole thing looks squat and wrong. So we lifted it up!

I have to fix that with a better solution (one block on each side of solid wood stained at least close in color) and get the mirrors up already!

Puffigus Fluffi also hates any disturbance to "his bed", which is one of MY pillows ontop of the comforter of a made bed. And people wonder why I have yet to change out my comforter for something nice!

Kevin, it's a queen-sized foam mattress with a platform from Ikea.

My other picture just looked too grim, plus after making the bed up I stumbled on this little vignette, which reminded me of a dog version of the cover of the "Valley of the Dolls" soundtrack, so I just had to post a fresh one.

Dan, I love those lamps! The Sally Ann near me has a candy dish (I think) that is similar in style to the bases. And those shades! Mike has some of a similar style in his sunroom.

And speaking of Mike, when I visited him the thing that struck me most about the H/W furniture is that wonderful satiny finish. I couldn't keep my hands off it.

Majestic Z's

Dan, did you mean me instead of Veg? Yes, there are a lot of Majestic lamps in my pictures. The iconic Majestic Z's. I have two in my living room. The one bedroom picture shows one Z and two ultra-rate Mini Z's. I have replaced the larger Z in the bedroom with a different lamp since that picture was taken, though.

I imagine that you already figured this out, but the one lamp in the blue bedroom is a Moss lamp. The base has a florescent light in it. It's one of the more tastful Moss lamps that I have seen.

I love the lamps in your bedroom as well.

Eye of the Beholder

I've really enjoyed this post. Everyone has such great stuff! I have a house full of this stuff too. I posted the room below on this last year but I've got a few new things. There are a few pieces of Heywood Wakefield, a few Moss lamps, a painting of Jungle dancers (from 1960) and my newest find, a plaster Frederic Weinberg wall sculpture. It lights up from the back.

Brown Saltman

The west coast designs of Brown Saltman are also some of my favorites. Below is a 1947 GE Musaphonic entertainment center. The cabinet is by Brown Saltman. I have a matching bedroom set. This has been electronically restored and I listen to it often. Plays lp's and 78's only. AM/FM/shortwave.

Brown & Saltman

I love the Brown & Saltman company stuff! I have a corner table with a tambour (sp?) top, and a coffee table with a built-in coffee warmer

Great console and pieces. I especially love the tongue and groove wood in your room.

Here is a funny story. In 1969 we moved into our "big house" in Denver when I was a kid. My dad got the builder, who he knew well, to "elevate" the house when it was built. That meant instead of the basement being below ground with below ground tubs and "window wells" the basement windows were ground level. This was delightful because the basement was more like a sunken level than a basement (remember raised ranches or sometimes called bi-levels?).

Anyways, in 1970, my dad finished the non-basement with wood, did the floors, even blew the acoustic ceiling himself.
Two years ago, on business travel, I went back to the old neighborhood and visited the house. The man who lived there raised his whole family and actually has lived there three times longer than we did. I was amazed to find that the only recently redid the orange formica and white kitchen my mom had put in! That kitchen lasted 35 years!

What I was stunned with was the rec room my dad built. Used as a big bachelor room by one of the boys who had moved back home, the owner was a bit embarrased by the clutter. I was not however, and was shocked that it was EXACTLY how we had left it. Same paneling. Same ceiling, same lights, same flooring, the 1970 window coverings, the corner faux fireplace and even the wood horse head that for some reason my dad stuck to the wall!

I still love that wood! Here is is in 2004. Gary your wood paneling made me think of this.

Love the flooring, and everything else, wow! A coffee table that is a COFFEE TABLE. I have never seen such a thing. That is just over the top.

Is the Conant Ball record cabinet tambour styld doors?

Please tell me about your Motorola console, would love to see the inside. About what year is that?

You may remember I searched a year for one, finally gave up finding a local one and bought one off EBAY and had it shipped from New Jersey! Mine is Motorola too...curious about yours.

Tongue and groove...

Kevin - thanks for the compliments on the basement. The entire basement is tongue and groove. The finish isn't glossy but a matte greenish wash over the wood. The brickwork is actually molded cement to look like brick. The picture below is the far wall of the basement - the entire wall lights up from above. It is a neon tube (not florescent). There are a few other built in planters. This house was built in 1949 and the basement was finished off in the mid-50's. It is 95% original. Ceilings are 8 feet tall so I can stand with no problem.

Fifties furniture is great....

...but my real interest is 50's/60's pottery. I've been collecting for a long time. The pictures above have neat pottery pieces! I'll attach some neat pics of pieces that I have out on display. Below is a line of Red Wing pottery called Prismatique. Was made from 1959 - 1963. Came in 4 colors. I like orange, celadon and white. I've collected this for years. This is hard to find in good shape (many sharp edges).
