Thinking about picking this up - what do you think? Hubby has been wanting a griddle for forever. My present stove works fine, but I would easily pay $100 for a counter-top griddle, and then have to store the dumb thing!

Opinions? I thought I might see if he would take a little less for it (mostly 'cuz I'm cheap!)

I know, I know - I need to focus on my dishwasher dilemma!

That looks like

a 36" or 40" inch range, and do you have room? Plus, it's older, and has pilot lights, not sparkers. In the winter, pilot lights are nice, but not in the summer.

Other than that, it would be a decent choice in an older range, depending on actual condition.

I don't know about the space yet...

I wasn't going to ask him serious questions like dimensions and all unless you guys gave it the thumbs up first :) I'm learning to trust your opinions.

I had a range something like this in my first apartment - wish I had that unit! Worked like a champ - never had a lick of problems with it. It looked a lot like this one with the griddle in the middle of the stovetop. That's my biggest draw to it. Personally I am happy with the range I have, but hubby really wants a griddle. I've thought about getting a cast iron unit he could put over the burners. I used to know someone who had one, and it worked pretty good.

I actually went on Craigslist to look at dishwashers (sigh) - this is what I get for looking!

Thanks Maytagbear!

Looks like a good deal, Sherri... A built in griddle is pretty neat!
If you can wait it out for the dishwasher, you'll be amazed at what you can find with a little patience. If there is a 'cabin country' area anywhere near you, check it out. There are often second-hand stores that turn up vintage treasures - got my second turquoise range and refrigerator that way!!

Hmmmmm......

There's actually a used appliance store on the other side of town I'd forgotten all about! I may just have to check them out today!

Oh, and I thrift shop all the time - trust me, now that I'm on the prowl I'm not likely to miss anything good that comes up in the local area. I have a small booth at the local antique mall. I keep it mostly as an excuse to buy more cool vintage stuff than I need :) Oh, and a tax writeoff. I need to put the word out with the owner of the shop on what I'm looking for. If a servicable machine comes within driving distance of my house, I'll sniff it out!

I think I'm going to abandon this range - it's very cool and would make my hubby very happy, but MaytagBear is right - I just don't have the space for it (sigh).

I need every room in my house to be 3' larger in length and width....

We might get the range after all!

It's a 36" model, and from the cabinet to the doorway is exactly 36"! Pat really wants it - who am I to stand in the way of a man who wants to cook me breakfast?

The guy who has it says there's been a lot of interest in it, so if we decide we don't really want it we can always resell.

Is that really storage to the left of the oven? That could be handy...

Will I miss the electric starts on my Hardwick? (Nail biting) - we will see! Maybe I'll use one in the basement for canning...

Remember stoves with pilot lights use gas 24/7. Also think about your gas bill....

If you both like it GO FOR IT!

I don't care for the air pollution 24/7 and the consumption of my oxygen with constant standing pilots.

The pilot lights add 1/3 to the yearly gas consumption of a residentla stove. Or more accurately if pilots are non-existant or turned "off" the gas consumption goes down by 1/3 for the year, on average.
