My friend whose grandmother gave me her vintage GE fridge came over today, we were talking about painting the fridge, and I mentioned I supposed to would end up painting it just plain white to match the stove, even though I would love a pop of color in the kitchen, since the cabinets are due to be painted gloss white this spring.

He asked why I couldn't just paint both the stove and the fridge, I said I didn't think the paint would handle the heat from the stove top, although when I was a teenager I knew someone who repainted a wall oven and it held up beautifully.

He suggested high heat engine paint, what do you guys think? Would it work? Has anyone here tried it? I really want it to work, but I don't want to wreck the stove finding out that it won't work.

Here is a link to a brand I found online.

I once talked to a company that professionally repaints appliances any color you want. They said they use an epoxy style paint that resists heat, acids from foods and things like that. I'd be more worried about it scratching easily.

scratching..

That's my main fear, that the paint will scratch, especially when hot, or peel, or oxidize around the burners. I figure if the porcelain was thoroughly roughed up and primed peeling wouldn't be an issue, but it would also mean there was no going back if the paint proved to be a disaster..[this post was last edited: 1/31/2014-06:28]
