Does anyone know how old this thing is or how it's supposed to work .. I have tried it and it works, spin is great but not sure what the pump settings mean, I know it's old but can't find any information online about it at all..

With most twin tubs, after transferring the clothes from the wash tub into the spinner, the operator redirects the drain hose towards the wash tub so that the sudsy water gets pumped back into the wash tub to be reused for the next wash, then after running water over the clothes in the spin tub, the drain hose is returned to the sink and the rinse water is spun out and pumped out the drain hose down the drain. Then, when all the clothes are washed, a knob is turned to pump water from the wash tub instead of the spin tub, allowing the operator to empty the wash tub. Your washer I'm guessing has an internal redirect hose from the spin tub to the wash tub so that you can leave the drain hose in the sink all the time. Turn the dial to "Wash", and the pump returns wash water from the spin tub back to the wash tub; turn the dial to "Rinse", and the pump sends water from the spin tub out the drain hose to the sink; turn the dial to "Drain", and the pump empties the wash tub water out the drain hose into the sink.

Hitachi

Brenda (Ladyboss1), that is a very nice machine. I bet it is from early 1970s.

My grand mother had one Hitachi twin tub much like this, back in the early 1970s. Not exactly 100% the same as the one pictured here, as I can recall, but pretty close. My grand ma's Hitachi had quite a bit larger control knobs, although much of the same design. I remember the spin compartment lid did open in the other axis: like the spin lid of most Hoovers.

I've had a beautiful Sanyo twinnie (once sold as Kenmore in Canada) about which the design was pretty reminiscent to Hitachi's (those little Japanese washers had much in common--they were made by Hitachi, Sanyo, Panasonic, etc.)
