For those who have asked me about recipe videos, I've been so far behind this year in posting things. Earlier this year I purchased a commercial building to house and showcase my collection of appliances, typewriters, housewares, radios/hi-fi's, and other stuff I'd been storing. While it's been a labor of love getting everything moved in and sorted out, it consumes every free moment of my time. The good news is that by spring everything should be in place.

We love making BBQ sauce from scratch. There are some good bottled sauces, but most have tons of corn syrup and other weird things in them, and it's so easy to make and suit to your own tastes. Here's one we made this summer.

Im right with you

Between moving, my eye problems and Donalds parents, we have not had time to think...Here is a good North Carolina BBQ Dip as its called here, This came from a very famous NC BBq restaurant, A friends son worked there in the 80s,
1 gallon catsup
1 gallon vinegar
1 gallon water
handful each salt=black pepper=red pepper flakes

1 cup sugar
1 tsp turmeric
mix and simmer 1 hour, this is a traditional NC dip used on chopped pork.

Thanks, Joe!

Glad to be in the mix!

HANS - I love the recipe you have for the sauce, especially because it calls for a "handful" of the seasonings! I'll probably cut the recipe down by 3/4 and give it a try...it would take me the rest of my days to use 3 gallons of sauce!! As I recall, the Carolina sauces always seem to be much thinner and more vinegary that what we use here in the north.

Glad to see you posting Kevin, I've missed all the cottage videos this summer.

I too make my own barbecue sauce.  It's an all purpose sauce, I use it on chicken or ribs.  Sweet and savoury would be one way to describe it.  I make a batch two, perhaps 3 times a year, it keeps well.
