We sometimes use the canned stuff for cooking, but for sitting down to a nice big bowl of soup, nothing beats homemade. Have it with some good bread, and it makes a wonderful meal!
I remember making mushroom soup years back when I first started cooking. Probably a FANNY FARMER recipe. Much better than canned. Although, strangely, my tolerance for canned has increased in recent years. Not because it's good--because it isn't really--but there is some nostalgia of remembering canned soup for winter weekend/vacation lunch when I was in elementary school.
