Has anyone out here ever hacked a machine to allow a computer to control it? I had a friend who once rigged a circuit to flash Christmas lights several years before the current crop of programmed lights came around. With similar expertise and materials, I don't see why a home appliance couldn't be controlled in the same way. Given the pinout of a few plugs and a list of sensor values and expected voltages, any second-year electronics engineering student could make it work. Once the "logic" of the original timer and switches was known, all original cycles could be perfectly mimicked with a few ICs and a home computer. In addition, speed and cycle combinations not built into the machine could also be run (go straight to wash after soak, intermittent agitation, long wash, slow agitation/fast spin and so on). Start delays and even remote start could be performed.
As many people are here and as much tinkering as has been tried, has anyone ever computer controlled a washer?
