Here's a question about this set......
Have you ever seen a washer and dryer that had such identical control panels? The alphabet and colors match perfectly, and except for the levers on the washer, they are identical. Trying to think of others that match as closely but cannot come up with any. Anybody know of any?

Funny thing, some of the mid-evolution panels looked much more futuristic than some they evolved into. Like, ahead of their time.

They're 1959 Kenmores. And beautiful they are, too.

All those Kenmore's need Jon is a good low sudsing detergent! The washer was my Grandma's model, I have great memories of it as a kid. All she ever used was cycle "A" and I tried really hard to get her to try some of those other options. Dash and Blue White were the products used in her household.

The late '50s and early '60s surely
were the zenith of appliance, and automotive, design imho. <---- like the sleek 1958 Virgil Exner designed Chrysler, and all the futuristic ranges and appliances of the Modern era beginning with The Sheer Look by Frigidaire... no coincidence, given GM's history of ground breaking automotive Styling starting with Harley Earl's creations. Such Beautiful KMs ought to be in an art museum!

Matching Washers and Dryers
Beautiful set Don glad you are getting some use out of those old appliances, LOL.
There are many examples of W & D pairs that looked almost identical, the Westinghouse Slant-Front machines were one of the best matched as they even had the same doors and other than the words on the front you couldn't tell the washer from the dryer.
If I remember your set of 59s came from me here in Beltsville, I still have the 1959 LKM pair and they also are almost a perfect match as were the 59 KM 70 series.
If I remember correctly your dryer is gas. Only the very TOL or LKM electric dryers were ever had the hi wattage 50 amp machines [ they could also be connected to a 30 amp line which would then not use the 2,800 watt boster element ]. No WP branded electric dryer ever got the 50 amp machines.

Matching consoles...
Those sure look fantastic! As far as consoles go, my (Jacqui's!) 63 Lady Kenmore set match quite well as does the 66 Lady K's. Being a Maytag guy as I am (hush, Dan!!!), I would also respectfully point out that the Maytag 906 washer/dryer set also makes for a perfect match...

This dryer is electric, but I have a gas version as well. John Lefever has told me that I should use the gas as it is high speed. I have yet to hook up the gas model, it is from Detroit. The washer is from Duluth, Minnesota, with a long and lovely story that I should take the time to tell sometime, but not tonight. John, the Beltsville 59 KM is either at Ben's or parted out. I have had three over the years. This machine is the first vintage washer I ever collected, and is near and dear to me as it was my Grandma's model that I was allowed to turn on as she picked me up and let me turn the dials as a kid. All we did was move the outer dial between suds and "A", only one or two clicks away from each other. (At least while she was in the room anyhow, cuz without her supervison and an outer dial that didn't start the machine a little boy could whirl that outer dial around with wild abandon, remembering to leave it back on "A".
Jon Charles, if you are so kind to offer a sample I will be happy with whatever you send. I was recalling the wonderful lobster rolls we shared a couple years ago when staying at your house, so as long as they don't smell like those I am happy! Looking forward to a couple Applianceville visitors arriving to check these out in person in the next month, stay tuned for pics and updates!
