Hello all again
I saved this from the jaws of the crusher (well it was stood upside down in a yard with a pile of newer appliances in deepest darkest shropshire bound for the scrap yard next week!)
Limited information on the internets suggests this is very rare machine - seems complete, motor/drum turns nicely but door catch jammed and most rubber parts have fallen to bits.
I haven't had chance to look at it any further or test anything yet.
Any pearls of wisdom for anyone and any idea from when it dates? My rough eye is saying early 70s but pffff I'm no expert.

Daft question but

Is the knob turned to OFF and pushed in as these had a mechanical latch as well as electric.

I have seen a matching dryer from 71/2 so could be a similar age?

Good luck Austin

Last time I saw one of those in person .....

.... was back in 1986!

Hi there.
Excellent save!

An aunt and uncle of mine had one of those and it was written off by a rogue 50 pence piece, being replaced by a Hotpoint 9530.

Electricity Board exclusive and just this evening done a time line of Hoover Autos from 1961 through to 1993 and have researched the A2018 this very day! Spooky!!!!

Really hope you get it going again!

Hopefully all the grime is wipe off-able, to reveal a sparkling A2018.

Keep us updated with how it goes.

Paul

The advert is from 1975 and shows the A2018's running mate in the electricity boards range - the A3050 Keymatic De Luxe E ....

Really am pleased that one of these has surfaced.

This is one of the exclusives Hoover did for which no decent images have really been found - line drawing from adverts don't really count - so it will be great to see how this clean up and restoration goes.

Congrats again on a great save - do keep us updated with progress.
All the best.
Paul

congratulations on saving this machine, I hope you can restore it to its former glory, it's strange that it doesn't have a detergent dispenser so how on earth would you put in the fabric conditioner in the final rinse? or maybe just use Bold or Surf in it.

as for the date, this 1 was made in May 1974. :)

Hi Alan.

Re the fabric conditioner - was a case of repeating final rinse with fabric conditioner added in, either after the final spin or catching it before.
Come to think of it my aunt used Surf in her A2018.

A fabric conditioner compartment in the drawer was not just a 'de luxe' feature in the Matchbox range, but a 'Keymatic de luxe' feature.
My mum, with her 3236H mere 'Automatic de luxe', never bothered with fabric conditioner (probably cause of the faff involved in adding it), but my mums mum was religious in its use, in her Electra A3E02.

The new 'Superstyle' range, introduced in 1975, I think had it as a standard feature in all drawered models.

Ahhhh memories! lol

Ahhhh memories!

Hi Jamie.
When I saw pictures of the newly saved A2018, memories came flooding back to me too :-)

... before being replaced by the electra A2E04 in 1977.
All cold fill models were discontinued in 1978, when the New Magic range appeared on the scene.
