Hoover A3110 fill level fault

Recently I have noticed that sometimes the water level will be half way up the door sometimes on a normal wash. I know when it goes into the cool down phase and then the rinses they are up the door this is normal but not to start with a wash level up the door.

Well the other day I put a load in and started it on a 60C D cycle and the level reached the door and it continued to fill literally to near the top of the door before I decided to shut it off then put it into a spin. I then noticed that when put into a spin the water was all sloshing around inside may have done it some good as when I put it back to a D cycle it didnt continue filling and subsequent washes have been ok since however I have not put it on and left the house incase it overfills and floods the place.

What could be the issue, my 35 year old machine which has had heavy use recently as I do all my partners washing now once a week (approx 4 loads) of dirty clothing as he has horses that he is responsible for so 2 set of clothes per day.

Hi Richard

Sounds like there could be some crud in the bottom of the machine that is blocking the air bottle that links to the pressure switch. The sloshing about may have dislodged it which is why its back to normal. Might be worth taking the back off the machine and checking the bottle - it should fill freely with water when the machine is filling. You could also check the hose from the bottle to the pressure switch in case it has started to perish.

I can only second what steve says, the pressure bottle becomes blocked with water deposits (if you live in a hard water area) and soap deposits

Have a good look at it, if you have to remove it then its self evident how to do it, if the bottle is full of gey crap you will need a bit of stout wire to poke around in side to loosen any deposits, and some warm water to fill it with and give it a good shake about (Fingers over the holes)

and yes by all means check the air hose, if you have got it off blow gently up it until you hear the pressure switch click and try and hold it as long as you can. if the hose has a very slow leak then the machine will keep topping up throught the wash.

Once over:

Could really do with the machine getting a once over to be honest as when a heavy load on the door seal is really out of place and its been hammered recently with use and still goes strong so want to make sure all is ok.

I had to read that post a couple of times as at first glance .......

Sounds like your suspension might need some attention although it is quite normal for the door seal to look buckled if there are heavy absorbent items in the machine. It might be all ok but you could post a pic next time it does it for some forum advice.

Distorted Door Boots

this is nothing to worry about, it is normal for the tub to drop a few inches when loaded and full of water, if you watch as the machine is filling you will often see the tub settle down on its suspension, this pulls the door boot slightly out of shape but is not a problem.

But as steve says post a pic of it oh and stable lad on horse back ;-)

Well I noticed when I had the lid off to repair the soap drawer leak last year that the drum was out of alignment a bit.

what you mention there is not whats causing the door boot to go out of shape, if the suspension is knackered then drum will sit way out of square, also if it is doing a balanced spin it will girate around its axes, its not a life or death problem but a common one on hoovers of this age if they have not benn serviced for years, as your now mobile richard get a horse box you can put the machine, horse and rider in it and come to one of the meets up that way and get everything serviced

Yes I think I will do that when the next meet is, its just being able to come when I am not on shift. However I will have to chuck it in the back of my Astra!
