The time has come...
So it looks as though the time has come for me to part with the A3110. The reason being is that for practical reasons the A3110 has been sat in the shed since last winter, covered up and protected the best it can be, however this is not the same as being in a heated house and in regular use.
Over the weekend I decided to take it out of the shed and bring it back into the house for regular use relegating my Maytag to the shed for a bit. I love the Hoover and I have emotional attachment to it but its not getting the use or enjoyment being stuck in the shed.
I left it sat in the house overnight to come upto room temperature even though we haven't hit winter yet and temps have been mild still. I plumbed it all in on Sunday and noted the cold water valve was noisy. The timer didn't seem to happy either and didn't make the usual clicking sounds. I put it on a 40C wash (E) and went out and did my shopping. It seemed to be doing ok and all heated up ok and drum turning fine and draining out. I got back and the RCD had tripped out and the machine was full of water and sat at cycle G. I took the machine outside and emptied this out and noted as I was moving it there was silver foil (it looked like confetti) all over the floor under the machine. You'll see the pictures that when I moved the machine there was also some places on the floor where water had dripped onto the floor. I was going out so didn't have time to look properly as I had drained and disconnected the machine by this point but there was water dripping from the bottom of the tub but this hadn't got anywhere near the motor or anything. Upon taking the lid of it was clear the mains filter had blown. I know these are not needed any more due to the world of digital and I could potentially bypass this and get it up and running but it was the water on the floor that has put me off. You'll see in the first pic there is a gap in the wooden floor panels where there is just floor boards beneath and you can tell the colour tone difference from the wet and dry bits.
I think its possibly time I donate the machine to the museum, I really feel attached to it and would be a shame to see it go but unless I bring this back into daily use in the house its going to end up deteriorating in the shed. There is rusting around the door which was previously patched up and the back panel is rusting too. I don't want the machine to get any worse. Its a shame as I was going to bring the machine back into daily use and possibly give my maytag to my brother as they are in desperate need of a washer.
