Front shot as you can see the soap draw front is missing, hopefully i can source a similar one and try and spray it

Hoover

Drum shot, the drum is good the bearings feel a little rough, and the suspension on one side has come out of its housing.

The foamy water is me flushing the machine through, lots of spider egg sacks in there..........

Hoover

Shot of the back showing it still has the original rubber outlet hose, this is what i noticed when i saw it in the car as was walking up to the car to offer assistance of course :-), and thought well that dates it a bit, i was hoping it might have been a A3060..........

Bloody hell!

This will please Mathew - he walked past one a few years ago and left it (it was dented and rusty as hell, so he made the right decision back then).

Just like you made the right decision to rescue this one Gary.

Fantastic!!!!!

I have never seen one in the flesh before.

despite appearances, this was made in June 1980 and was known as the Automatic Summer Special. The A was the Automatic bit and the S was for Summer. The 1 is because this was the basic cheaper AS machine.

They also made an AS2, which was based on the A3108/3110 bodystyle.

Shame she is missing the powder drawer facia, but still thoroughly warrents saving.

Below is the instruction manual cover.

Really pleased you found one

This is the piccy of the machine Mathew saw slapped on a skip - I will let him post a piccy of it.

This is the powder drawer facia you are after.
Could you make one?

Paul

Hoover

Hello Paul

So Hoover were still making proud door models then!!!.......the only thing that threw me a bit was the motor had the later than my keymatic type connector, so dates were a mystery becuase i was thinking it cant be 1970.........so yes 1980 makes sense

Budget model oh yes without a doubt ;-).........

Brilliant of you to provide this info so quickly and pictures :-)

Now where the bloody hell to put it!.............the bendix will have to go!

It definateley cheered me up getting this machine today........sort of compensation for not being able to attend the meet up this weekend..........

if you spot a soap draw front that will fit then i would be interested

Thanks Paul

Ps how did you meeting go? did they like your unusual cargo :-)

soap draws

well if can find one that is the same shape and fitting i could try spraying it up, so i can an approximate match

Indeed they were Gary.

In fact they were making matchboxes until at least 1979!

So they were keeping old designs going for exclusives and budget machines, prior to the introduction of their own budget round door electrons.

If i find a soap drawer facia - it is yours!
You could try hoover, for a laugh! really perplex them. The 'Drawer Handle' is component number 3465554D.

What bendix has to go? I dont remember seeing one when we were down there. perplexed!

Absolute pleasure to provide the manual covers - seeing you have saved the machine has made my evening. Truely.

The covering of the fabric conditioner almost seems done out of spite. Cheap machine - cant give em too much. Have never really understood petty things like that.
The same with cheap hotpoints having stud feet at the front, where as the middle and upper models had self levelling feet all round! Must have cost money to have a seperate supply of feet for cheap machines, rather than just ordering wheels for the whole range.

Paul

Below is the official waffle from hoover...

MODEL A3138 AUTOMATIC

This is a 'Summer Special' version of Model A3100 with a two compartment dispenser, revised styling and a 720rpm spin speed.

While the lid and door have a 'Textured' finish, these are not being introduced as service parts and replacements will be of the standard finish.

In similar fashion the 800rpm AC module 4785150C will be used for service purposes.

A wiring diagram, sequence chart and connection diagram are attached and below is a list of divergent parts from Model A3100, with items introduced specifically for the new Model marked by an asterisk*.

For all other service aspects refer to Model A3100....

there then follows a list of the parts.

The 720rpm lark smacks of a raid on original matchbox spare parts, as Hoover non-special/non-exclusive machines hadnt spun at 720rpm for years - the A3006 and A3008, which replaced the matchbox series, were 800rpm machines.

Hope it all helps.
Updating my picture library, with your pictures, as I type Gary.

Cheers for sharing this lovely machine.
Paul

Bendix Autodryer

This is the one i got last thursday from a customer at work, if you look up the above thread its there, Mike saw it

Well thanks for your help.

Yes petty penny pinching savings are annoying in some ways but of course they do set the machines apart.

Hoover Spares!!!!!!!!! HOPELESS :-).......some dis-interested cow sat behind a screen being payed crap money.....i wont waist my time ;-)

It is nice to get another machine.

Tell me hows Rob........whats he up to he has been quiet of late

Gary

the bendix

Ah yes - i remember now.
Another awkward decision - oh we need roooooommmmm!

Rob is fine, but internetless at the moment. I cant get it to work, but it stopped after the phoneline started playing up. Landlords are sorting so hopefully, once the line gets sorted, his net access will start working again.

I am keeping him updated with what is going on, on here. Will let him know about the A3138 tomorrow.
Paul

A3100

That is a really nice looking machine.

Yes 720rpm motors, definately a raid going on there, so they plunderd the bits bins and came up with this model

Ah well im off to the garage tomorrow so ill have a quick play with it.........

Gary

skip photo

Hi Gary this is the machine I left on the skip, several years ago now, but it was in the days before I was into collecting
though if it had had an enamel drum I would have been tempted, I circled the block several times before deciding to leave it. have a good weekend, find me a A3100 please lol

Mathew (not very resized I did try lol)

Judging by the darker facia on the skip machine, Mathew, i'd deduce it had lived in a very smokey atmosphere.

The difference in facia colour is really noticeable.

Paul

Colours

Hello Mat & Paul

Yes that is a darker colour, probably smoked a pipe i reckon

Well I tried out the old nail today, and it works!........blimey the motor sounds as sweet as a nut....programer has that nice click and whirring noise......I refitted the right hand suspension in its mount

HEres the bad bits, It has the wrong door boot, it is the later type that requires a tension band and consequently it leaks from the door a bit, it is soaped to F..k inside, i put half dose of Daz in there and put it on a 60 degree wash and suds city formed in no time...........so i put it through a rinse cycle, the shite that came out the outlet hose...........blurrch.........but for all that it works.......tried a spare A3110 soap draw on the front but no good, different size.

Anyway i quite like its crude finish so it can stay, i had to stack the twin tub ontop of the Bendix dryer to get all this in..............

Mat
Keymatic Motor re-build has worked, mind it is not as quiet as the AS1 motor *evil grin*

SO Mat & Paul have great weekend oop north.......:-)....Hopefully i will one day be able to make it a get together........

Ps Hoover A3100............sod off I like that aswell :-)

Gary

Hi Gary.

All the negatives sound trifling - just the usual time and effort should sort those (he says, as if they are sorted in a jiffy).

The good things are ones to breathe a sigh of relief over - motor sound, programmer sound. I take it that she is water tight?

'Ps Hoover A3100............sod off I like that aswell :-)'
lol! that made me laugh.

paul
p.s I am pretty sure that me and rob have a powder drawer facia off an a3006/a3058. This is the type that the A3138 is derived from. I will try and find it for you and send it down, either via cardiff, or bring it down when we next visit you. You know its only a matter of time! teee heee heeee.

old OOVAH !

Well Paul
I hope you and Rob enjoyed the weekend break in Washer heaven :-)

Well a soap draw would be nice thanks for that.

I had the Keymatic running and the AS1 today, sorted door leak (almost) ran it through a 90 degree wash with some old garage cloths in it......timer and motor work suspension a bit iffy...........but for all that i do like it.

Paul
A3100 yes and any other.........christ where does it end??? :-).......

Erm, i want to go for the A3060.......any thoughts?

The mad git in Cornwall

Mikes New Ones

I notice that Mike had a new set of toys:-)

I think they are really nice, solid looking sort of retro looking........much better than most modern jelly mold creations

New Toys - Old Toys!!!

Lordy mate you`re getting some ringers in at the moment, no wonder you have a headache...Lol

very simple machine, but with Hoovers extensive colour pallet, who the heck opted for that one!!!did it have a matching dryer??

Mathew, you deffo made the right choice with that skip model, you`d lose the will to live if you had to look at that wreck!!

AND - you`re not the only one looking for a **** you know!!!

New Toys - Old Toys!!!

err wazzat a lashing Mike LOL

I reckon the only people who bought these were only out for a cheap machine, as you point out the colour scheme is not attractive, maybe at the time Hoover had a an old school Russian designer

As far as the **** thats i what i want to know politics an all that ;-)

What a wonderful sight, two vintage proud door hoover washers make, sat side by side.

Can you imagine if we got them all together! 3243H, A3006, A3008, A2***!!!, A3060 and A3138.....think thats them all!
What a sight they would be.

Paul

3243H

Paul,

doesn't it just make your heart skip a beat seeing that keymatic again, not only would that line up be quite a sight, what a sound they would make spinning in harmony, once Gary had finished his fine tuning they would be singing in harmony.

Great work Gary, next time I'll bring a jack hammer and we can extend through into the next garage, get you a bit more space lol.

Mathew
