Watts

Hey Scott

The latest Mieles over here are actually 2200W lol!!!

Noise wise its very quiet for such a powerful motor. The tools are pretty decent both in terms of size and quality. On our version they are stored on a bracket that either slots onto the back of the handle OR onto the telescopic tube. The US version dosent appear to have the bracket on the tube tho :(.

The one shortcoming is the hose length- with so much power for normal use it stays contracted to the minimum length and so the cannister is always trying to trip you up!- this MAY not be as much of a problem with the less powerful motor. Our model is also missing the air blead on the hose handle.

Dont let me put you off tho- it is an amazing machine :)

Voltage/watts

Hey again Scott

Our standard household voltage is 230-240v as opposed to your 110-120v.

Our sockets can take a maximum load of 3200w which at 240v is 13A

3200W @ 120V would be roughly 25A- I believe your outlets can only take 15A????

Ohm's law Amperes=watts / voltage
750/120 = 6.25A

So the new connies are twice the power. It's not the classic Hoover motor so who knows if it will sound like a classic or not.

So the 12amp motor will give you a 1440watt Connie. Twice the power!

12 Amp Connie......

If its made in China, it probably has the tapered fan motor that's typically in the Chinese vacuums. Those motors have some pretty nice suction. I've been impressed at the suction the Chinese canister vacuums have. Working in mechanical design and with Chinese suppliers, I know that the Chinese prefer to have many parts sourced in China, so it IS possible that the new Constellation has that tapered fan motor. These motors will typically run at higher RPMs and whine a bit more, but in the new Connie, the exhaust going into the floor should really quiet it down.

Tech-ey stuff aside, I'm looking forward to getting one of these new Connies soon.

Off topic.....Glad to hear that all the conventioneers made it back safe and sound!

Wow!

I'd love to get me one of those. We currently have a Hoover upright, but it's such a pain. It weighs a ton, and the hose thing is kludgy as all get-out. Since we have three dogs and a cat, we have to vacuum the furniture a lot. This would be perfect.

Although I have to say that I think a stainless steel vacuum would be highly impractical. Kinda cool looking, but impractical. Do you think those pearl finished units could be srayed a fun color?

Doh!!!!

Ive just re read these posts and noticed Jeff lurking around as well!!!!

Hey mate :)

Different Colour choices would be fantastic!!!!!!!

Also with a more suction motor, that means it will float higher off the ground. Makes sense that blowing the exhaust to the ground, the carpet or floor will absorb the noise. Whatever the case, I'm getting one.

New Constellation

Wow, I can't believe that it's now in the US as well!!! What's old is new again; I'll definitely be getting one of those in the near future! With a starting price that for once isn't outrageous (unlike the Z-series), I can't see how this won't be popular with the masses!

They advertise a 12-amp motor for greater suction, but the question is, will the airflow be as good as the vintage Connies and will it be as quiet? I like the idea of more color options (how about orange or lime green?), and I wonder if there will ever be a possibility of a tilted model?

The New Constellation!

But! Go to the Best Buy web site and it says it's back ordered for 1-2 weeks. Have you boys all gone on-line and bought up all their stock?
As badly as I'd like to have one NOW, I'll wait and maybe there WILL be a SS model here in the states. But it doesn't mean I'll wait forever!

i wonder if the "focus group" mentality of so many companies will keep the Constellation from being released in cool colors. though not my personal favorite, the most obvious choice for color would be turquoise or perhaps a vibrant pink? avocado/pea green would be another good choice, but i dont think Hoover has the b@lls.

Power, power, power.

Well, in using my UK Satellite, which draws 2000 Watts, and runs on 220v, it has a MASSIVE amount of power... and floats very nicely as a result. It is quiet--but it's a powerful quiet--almost like the Hoover Telios, if anyone has heard one of those run.

The body of the machine is Stainless Steel... but the skirt on the lower half which makes it float is made of plastic, as is the part that the bag sits on and covers the motor. The guts are similar but quite different. The new motor is much smaller, and there's a shroud around the motor that has a wiring harness/pc board of-sort on it.

Here's a link to some pictures comparing new to old (if you haven't seen them already).

PS-- I will do my best tomorrow to find out when we're gonna be getting them! And I'll keep you posted on the pricing as well.

Ruh-roh...feeling the bug to have one of these! :-) It's actually really nice they brought it back. One wonders if it be too much to hope for a Convertible redux, in time for the 100th anniversary? ;-)

exciting

Maybe the rebirth of the Connie will give Hoover a much needed boost!

Thinking about it some more, the painted version will be less maintenance than the SS model. SS needs lots of TLC to look sharp!

Stainless steel and cleaning

Hey Jeff/Fred and all

I didnt notice how dusty mine when I took that pic until I posted it lol!!!

I polished it last night tho :)

Colors

If Whirlpool can make different colored washers, they can surely make different colored vacuums. Avocado or turquoise please!

That grey/silver is a neutral color and actually will stand out in my house.
