Another constellation restoration.
This one is another Ebay find and cost £20.
I seem to have lost some of the Photos again, anyway in order of dismantling ready for powder coating.

Lid with handle removed, usual rusting hulk.

Motor out, bearings are shot, turn the fan by hand and you can feel the play and feel the crunching.

Motor mount and the base of the machine.
I always take a photo so that when I rebuild the machine I’m reminded which way to refit the mount.

Some times you get one pig; the rivet keeps spinning, so wedge it tight with a screwdriver between the two parts helps.

Everything else in the storage basket for safe keeping, all the rubber parts washed including the name badge, hose ring and ratings plate ready for reassembly.

Stripping the motor, first mark the motor casing with permanent marker, so that the casings are put back in the same places when rebuilding.

Using a socket remove the bolt retaining the fan from the armature and then separate the fans and internal covers.

And this is where all the photos have gone missing, drilling out the bearings and the complete rebuild, I hate my computer, but on the other hand I will have to find another constellation to work on and do it all agene.

Very nice job, Lee!

I luuuvvv quite a lot those cherished Hoover Constellation vacs !

Personally, I now have three of those---a fourth (found for 40$ recently) is on its way... I also have a couple of Celebrity vacuum cleaners plus a brand new Miele S6 Contour machine equipped with the famous HEPA filter.

Your restoration process is impressive, a success as obviously witnessed by the photos. I plan, soon, to post some photos of my own vac collection. Stay tuned.

Constellations !

very nice! never saw these, but they're great looking...

picked up a Hoover S3061 earlier last week, 1977, tan, no chrome - it's a Celebrity II Elite....my first..and
would like a few more...Have you ever glued any plastic parts together on those Hoovers(do they have a motorized powerhead?)..just curious, I have a crack on the elbow - any experience using some epoxy or know of anything that will bond the plastic to itself? .thanks if you have any ideas/opinions.

Love your collection, there- thanks for posting.

Phil

The problem is,

should his collection grow to that size, his darling wife's collection of shoes and handbags would grow equally. Or so the rumor has it! **LOL**
