Hoover Electra D6E16 Tumble Dryer (1982)

Following Lavamat Jons new find of his Hoover A3110 childhood washer, have had a few requests to get me into gear and post the vid of the matching Electra dryer...here it is, made by Hoover UK in the Merthyr Tydfil factory , South Wales, UK.

The dryer takes a 10lb load and has two heat settings, High for Cottons, Low for delicates. It uses a pressurised cabinet airflow, drawing air through the rear over the heater at the cabinet front (halo of heat) through the clothes and is vented through the back panel. It also has a 10min automatic cooldown at the end of the programme to prevent creasing!!

with Gary.....I love the neons on the Electra set. Was a bit surprised the dryer was uni directional. Where the Hoover dryers of the same era non reversing too?

Reversing

It wasnt until the matching dryer for the A3190 electron 1100 came out that Hoover produced a reversing dryer (D6142 I think)

Thanks for the info. I just assumed that the matching dryer for the A3110 was reversing.

We had the Hoover A3110 and the matching dryer in glorious copper tones with orange 1/2 load button on the washer. The dryer only went one way and was black inside. It had a buzzer to tell you when it had finished and gave an intermitent tumble to creasecare at the end of the cycle,too. Ours lasted 25yrs without trouble...then BANG... and goodbye.

Echoing others thoughts - the A3E12 and D6E16 make for a really smart set of machines.

Below is an advert that I remembered from my childhood. It was in pretty much all of my grandma's Woman, Womans Realm and Womans Weekly magazines for about two years, circa 1981 to 1982.

Seeing a copy of it again, in amongst your magazine collection Mike, brought the memories flooding back.
Weird thing is that the advertising of the elctricity board echoed one facet of Hoovers. Namely that whilst the D6E16 was advertised under its palm tree in pretty much every magazine going, the A3E12 was totally ignored. I never saw an advert for it.
Much like Hoovers mass advertising of the A3110, whilst totally ignoring the A3112 and A3114.

For Supertwin in Cardiff....

here is the UK's only (to the best of my knowledge) currently preserved D6096. Found in a second hand shop, just round the corner from where its current owner lives, it now resides with two (or is it three) A3110's, an A3112 and an A3114.

Whey hey! There she is!
I'd forgotten the organge indicator light! Such a good machine.
It used to squeal like mad for the first couple of seconds and then she was away.
The two machines looked brill side by side.

South African Version

Here is the D6130 all the way from Sarf AfreekaH this visually is the same as the Britsh version it's internals owe more to the early Hoover dryers (not a sealed pressurised cabinet)

D6E16 free to good home

Should anyone be interested, I have an Electra (made by Hoover) D6E16 going spare.
It is not perfect, the drive motor bearings are (badly) worn, but otherwise it works perfectly.
Since those bearings are plain (probably Phosphor Bronze) bushes it should not be too difficult to make new ones.
Other than that it could well be used for spares.

Running out of time before scrapping

With regrets, I cannot continue to store this dryer. It will have to go for scrap.
I can store the plastic vertical stack frame for a short while, that does not take up much space.
If you want the dryer, please send me an email before 2pm today. I will check then, and if I have no messages it will be taken to my local recycling yard.
