At last, summat went right lol!
Thought i'd share pics of my new toy. Just did a test run first and this is it's maiden wash. Seems to be all good so far (fingers crossed!)

Excellent Bjorn!

So pleased you got the machine. They are fantastic.

A friends mum who lived 2 doors up the road from my childhood home had one of these. Got to see it in action many times. Then when I first moved out of home and rented a room in a work collegues house, She had one also and because I was old enough to use it I did many loads and enjoyed it. She replaced it with an Indesit because there was so much scale in the machine after the 1100 spin and vibrations your clothes would come out covered with bits of scale.

There are 4 of these machines saved now I believe between club members. A very popular machine in it's day. Just shows how well built they are that so many still survive.

Congratulations!!

Mark

If anybody has got a copy or know where i can get instruction book for it, would be great help. Have tried Hoover website but no longer list this model.
Don't kneed it really, coz it so easy to use but would be of interest.

Hoover 3060

Excellent Bjorn

As Mark says these are wonderful excellent machines!!!.......styling is superb i think......sheer pleasure all round

What happened with that complete wa.ker with the logic dryer?

Gary

Congrats on the new purchase Bjorn.

Looks superb. Thing is you need to get that D6042 stacked on top - they will look superb together.

I count 5x A3060's preserved, as a certain someone has two! I also know of a sixth in existence but, to the best of my knowledge, that individual isn't a member.

As you say mark - a very solid, long lasting machine - despite the bearings issue when they were introduced and which afflicted the A3060's replacement as well (the A3110).
So hoover didnt acknowledge the issue that quickly. Infact, from reading Which magazines, they even charged handsomely for the repair, whilst if you bought an A3E08 or A3E12 the Electricity Board repaired them for free!

Naughty Hoover!

I wonder whether the bearings issue could have contributed to so many of them being around today. Maybe the fact that machines were given a heavy repair a couple of years after they were bought, lead to them being kept on for just that little bit longer than would otherwise be the case.

I am also told that they were still being sold as second hand machines, through the official outlets, into the late 1980s.

After the initial problems, they appear to have turned into a very sound machine.

Well done Hoover!

Now, where are all those A3064's. hmmmmmmm

Paul
p.s did you get my e-mail Bjorn?

9 years as an everyday machine

Hi Bjorn

excellent choice of machine,I saved one of these when we bought the house, from a skip out side a take away shop, it needed a new pump and a good clean, but aside the occasional, tightening of the pulley bolt, to keep the taper bearings tight, its been trouble free. I could still watch every wash. This model is certainly in my constantly rotating list of favourite hoover automatics, it was thirty years old back in february, and shows no signs of wear, including the drum and motor bearings.

mathew

Ps it was spinning at 1100 when I took this photo hence the poor focus lol, still enjoy the neon.

Cool

Hi everyone,

I think these machines are fab, love the square door, I remember when they use to be chrome doors as well. Its a great pity what has happened to hoover,if they made machines like the ones on this thread, then I think many people would buy them.

Regards

Paul

Hoover - Who Better...!!!!!

Nice one Bjorn, did you need to do much to it??? a most popular washer of its time when they first came out....then NOT due to the bearings and split tubs...then very popular once all the issues had been sorted, and as the guys say, it now makes for a reliable machine!!!

Mines lurking in the rhs wall of Hoover ready for a matching dryer!!! Gotta luv those ramp up and drop down acceleration spin speeds!!!

Finally got the dryer and put it on top. Given the dryer a clean but it could do with an overhaul and touch of paint. Didn't have to do anything to the washing machine. Just connected it up and away it goes. Forgotten how well they washed, better than the LG Trom it has replaced (although need to do 3 loads to the LG's one!
That w*@$*r with the dryer! I got my money back from paypal in the end. Funny enough, i got a mate to bid on it and we had the high bid. It then was suddenly sold to someone else for £124 less than my maximum bid. Arse!
Have got the emails chaps, will respond in next day or two. Havent been in the office because off work and all stuff is in there.

Selectamatic

sexymatic more like, what a machine and concept, Hoover certainly gave owners a lot of programmes, well done Mat

Gary

You know my opinion of the Selectamatic already Mathew...

...but I have to tell the others.

The old Selectamatic is a real beaut - very unusual and something completely unique (unless someone secretly harbours another one).

It oozes charecter and has a story behind it, which will be told (I am sure) in the fullness of time.

The rebuild was wonderful to watch and it was an honour to be there at the rebirth of a rare piece of Hoover Laundry history!

Paul

Selectamatic

that is the only time i have seen a programme for man made fibre blankets!! Love these old Hoovers - if I ever go FL again I would want a pre 1990 Hoover!

Ok....

Why was the Selectamatic so rare/good/desirable?

Don't get me wrong, I would love any of the Hoover machines that have been posted....

...but why is this one special in particular?
