Hoover Keymatic 3224 on Ebay UK

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

It strikes me that .....

between the 3224 and 3226 keymatic models, it seems to be the earlier 3224 model which prevails in the UK. Any reason for this - more reliable that the 3226? Could be down to numbers made and sold I suppose.
Does anyone in the UK actually own, or know the whereabouts of, a model 3226 in the UK?
My best mates, when I was a kid, had a 3226 in their cellar which worked alongside a 3022 matchbox dryer - ah memories.

Cheers
Paul

Keymatic

Congratulations Richard on finally getting your Keymatic, having just missed out on the last one, this looks in a lot better nic...and has the later red bakelite keyplate.

Jon , dont worry I still have mine, (& all the bedtime reading documentation),thanks for the heads up, but glad Rich got it....

Paul, as well as Louis in Netherlands & Chris & Mark in Aus having a 3226, Keith in UK also has one as well, the 3226 benefits from an enhanced wiring loom as well as a black tougher door boot and the use of the cirular programme indicator instead of the timeline...also on later models the S/S inner door panel...but you are right that all the keymatics about all appear to be the 3224 first model..

Cheers, Mike

Glad to hear that it has gone to a collector who will appreciate it for what it is - a superb machine that should be cared for.

Hi Mike - cheers re the info on surviving 3226's - glad to know that there is at least one safe in the UK.

Paul

How do Richard

just to reitterate - really pleased that you have got this one.
What with your Bendix LT (a great aunt of mine had an LA - my god they are big brutes!) you will have a great laundry combo - 2 total classics!

Well done for taking the plunge.
Post some pics when it arrives!
Cheers
Paul

Bendix washer in coupon...

Was this model copied by Casdon in the early 1970's, to be sold as a children's toy washer?

My sister had the toy, and I was always fascinated by it. It had a slide control, which you could set to 'wash' or 'spin'. It had a drop-down door, with red locking catches. A chrome-effect powder lid sat on the top surface. And it came with a 'hose' and wash-tub.

The Bendix LT was modelled by the dolls house furniture manufacturer 'Lundby' - see picture attached.

Hi John - unfortunately I am not the proud owner of the Bendix advert. It was on ebay UK about 9 months ago and I only possess the advert picture - don't know if someone on here actually bought it? Anyone going to own up?

My copy isn't really legible, but I have blown it up a bit - have a go at translating - it seems to get more difficult as it goes on.

Bendix washer in coupon...Casdon toy washer...

Matchboxpaul: not dissimilar, but not the one.

I think RobM's photo #88 of 88 in his photo collection, is actually it!

Keymatic

Hi Ross

The fab thing about the keymatic is you can disable the door switch and because it has a tilted drum you can still use, it does tilt back a fair degree because the pulsator needs to be submerged for it to work, it uses to large springs suspended from the metal chasis to anchors on the drum top, and one very thin wire that loops around the lower part of the drum and attaches to the top cradle as well on each side...simple and effective.

Mike

Hi there. It would be fun seeing a video clip and pics later of this one. Would be nice compare to the old one i had. I think mine had a serious program problem from the start and in the end it really had.

Well done Rich,

Another Keymatic goes to a deserving home! I hope your couriers take good care of it. I have the manual for the later model, and it's full of odd little quirks - having to turn the water off (and release the pressure!) after the wash, and the automatic switchoff if the load becomes unbalanced. I'm sure there is a copy of it floating around on the net, which I believe Louis scanned in. Good luck with the other item too - I was hoping someone from here would place a bid, so I wouldn't have to!

Incidentally, do any of the other Keymatic owners own a functioning (or semi-functioning) slope front model? or are they all just display pieces?

Paul - I suspect the 3224 is more common due to the much longer production life (1961-66, as opposed to '66-'67), and I think towards the end of its life the slope front machine developed a reputation for bearing failure, which may have put consumers off. But it's still a spectacular machine!

How do guys.

I also owned one of the Casdon machines, but unfortunately it got dropped down the stairs by one of my cousins and smashed!
Was not best pleased!!!!!!!!!!

The Lundby miniature was modelled so closely to the big bendix LT that it even retained the same facia colour scheme.

Any delivery schedule yet Richard? Have to say that I am really looking forward to seeing what she looks like, all cleaned up and in good lighting - the advert picture was obviously of it still in its hidey hole pantry room.

As you say Simon - '...a spectacular machine'.

Fingers crossed for a safe delivery.
Paul
P.S the attached advert is up on Ebay UK at the moment.

Hi Richard..Congrats on your recent win !!..its great to know that there is another Keymatic that has been saved and will be cheerished. I have the later model 3226 with the round indicator, and Black & White keyplate..it is in working order, but just dragging in the kitchen and getting it all set up, is just a bit to much on my own, hopefully over the coming months i will attempt it..my machine was given to me by a good friend, who at the same time gave me a matching set of English Electric Liberator's, another first in the automatic field, and i think may have been the first stacker washer/ dryer. Have lots of fun with the machine when it arrives !!
Regards
Keith

Yippeeee - a 3226.

Flippin heck Keith, it looks immaculate. Great to finally see a 'real' 3226 again, rather than just a piccy from a manual or advert.
I haven't seen a 3226 for, oooohhhh lets see....at least 25 years!
Mike mentioned that you had one - great to see a survivor, especially one in such superb condition.

Cheers for posting the picture - made my day.

Regards
Paul

thanks

Hi i will post as may pictures as soon as i get the machine, had a bit of a wobble moment as my courier could not collect machine , but all is well as vendor recommended one so it should be with me next weekend i think, hopefully, so Keith , Mike and others does your machines work? Keith yours looks brand new, apparently the owner bought mine 20 -30 years ago but never used it and preferred to go to the laundrette and it was in working order when stored, any tips on recommissioning an elderly keymatic ?

many thanks Richard

The rubber hoses and seals may have perished, motor bearings and valves might be seized, drive belts will probably have stretched/slackened.

Best to check everything, by hand, before applying power to the machine. Ensure that there is no grease or oil contamination on the mating surfaces of the rubber drive belt pulleys.

Hi Richard...The machine is in quite good condition.. one of the sides just needs a touch up, from a few scrapes..mine is in working order, they are great machines, and the noises they make are great, i was having a tidy up saturday morning in the garage, and thought i would wheel the ole bird out and take a few pics..hope you like them..will try and do a video at some time..Keith

P.s: I have done a complete wash & spin & save cycle in the Parnall, but just waiting to get it converted to dvd to upload, as it was taken on an old video camera..!

Have a look on ebay for your model , there is something you might like if you dont already have it, i think mine has one but will have to wait and see. also do you know why some have hoover badges on the left ,some on the right mine looks as if it has none :( , similar to vacs why did they change sides for the logo?
