I sold my Hoover Keymatic to a German collector, who is restoring it right now.

He has a problem with the machine, the timer stops at every increment where it only pumps. The timer has to be advanced manually then. It goes through all other increments automatically. Is this a common problem? Has this occured on other Keymatics?

He thinks he can solve the problem if he would have an electric scheme for this machine. Does anyone have that?

He doesn't trust himself very much with english, so I posted this question for him here.

Hoover Keymatic

Hi Louis, glad to here your Keymatic has gone to a good home and will be restored, we have the scematics, can you get him to post a pic of the keplate / timer unit please or indicate the model number on the timer, there are a number of different revised timers and different wiring schematics / diagrams etc...

Yours was the Keymatic 3226 with round programmer dial? (having a senior moment)!

Hoover keymatic

Is that your machine in the video? There should be a code and number on the keyplate timer inside the washer like MTB & number -
the timer in the video looks like a later replacement with a clear side.

There where a number of updated timers for each model number and the wiring looms and schematics differ as well...and yes like I said senior moment ha ha..

Update Keymatic...

Hi Louis

I have the manuals can you confirm the following please:

Serial Number of this keymatic

There are 4 versions of ATH timer, is there anything else on the timer that has a stamp saying ATH version 1,2 3, or 4

Also to go with the 4 versions of timer there are 2 versions of wiring harness to go with relevant timers - can you tell me does your washer have either:

A large terminal block on the top of the chassis (I just couldnt see from the video)

A large long terminal block on the RHS (looking from back) on the lower bottom frame

Or No terminal bloks at all (ie all the wiring goes from the timer to relevant parts, pump, motor etc?

We need to narrow it down if we can other wise its something like 24 pages instead of 6 lol...

cheers,Mike

ps I see an E stamped also on the timer so am guessing this is a later model with ATH V4 timer, no terminal blocks and an E harness...

Pump issues

I can just about see the sump hose in the video and it looks like a cobbled together replacement like we had to do, I remember having a problem with fill / empty etc and we found a problem with the hose from sump to pressure pot leaking out & not sealed properly - it could be that, fikle washers they are!!

heres what the faultfinder says for pump issues:

Hi Louis

Mikes being very kind, but I'm not that clever.

The timer is triggered to advance either due to the time intervals, eg 2mins, or by the impulse path, so say when the temperature is reached, the thermostat closes completing the circuit which impulses the timer to advance and its the timer that switches the heater off rather than the thermostat. You will have noticed when it fills, as it get to the correct level it advances at the instant the pressure switch trips.

Same with the pump, the pump will run until the low level switch switches, then it advances either to a timed rest, continued pump or tumble and spin.

So first check the pressure switches, as if the timer doesn't think it's empty it won't advance.

Sorry this is a bit rushed, too much happening at once at the moment.
I hope thats a help, it's the easiest place I can think to start.

All the best

Mathew

Thank you guys, Stephan has translated your messages with Google translate, he seems to have solved the problem, there was a cable not well connected.

It's a bit difficult to translate technical English terms and technical German terms when you are Dutch and not very technical inclined. lol!

Stephan sent me some pictures, I hope they help to determine what timer this is. He is a professional repairman, so he is looking forward to the schemes.

In the meantime it is perhaps interesting to have a look at his youtube channel, he restored quite a few machines:

Keymatic ...

Well the mystery deepens, the yellow motor solenoid says ATH, but on the Timer it says AT 38, nowthen most of the timers where 42 position cams, but in the book is an AT36 which has 36 cam positions - yours says AT38, I wonder if yours was a special edition timer for other countries and only has 38 position cams?

The other pic that would help is a pic of the top of the machine to see if you have the distribution block on top and on the chassis baseplate, that would narrow it down considerably...

I will post what I have and see if you can work out from the wiring colours / diagrams and terminal blocks etc...
