I know this is the wrong site, but I'm not making another Vacuumland account.

I just bought Hoover's new Mach 5 Multi-Cyclonic upright.
I have not used it yet, but I put it together and took it totally apart already (that's the engineer in me).
I have to say, for a Chinese Hoover, this machine seems to be made of much better plastic and higher quality parts than some other vacuums I've seen; including Dyson.
It uses the almost exact cyclonic design as the old Fantom vacuums. In fact, it looks like an evolution of a Fantom machine in Hoover clothing. I'm very impressed with it.
What's neat, and probably gives it the rights to tote the fact that it cleans better than Dyson is it has "Windtunnel Ducting Technology" in the head. If you're not familiar with Windtunnel, it's a brilliant design that channels air through the brush nozzle, and eliminates the rescattering of the dirt on the carpet.
Here are some pics:

here's the head unit. see the Windtunnel ducts? It has a nice brush deactivation system too. It's real simple and robust.

Here's the belt deactivation system. When you push for brush action, a tensioner presses on the little belt to cut the slack and make it spin. It's made by GOODYEAR in the USA, and is, from what I can see, the only USA made part on this machine. LOL!!!
Oh Hoover........

Hoover Cyclonic

I have a Hoover Cyclonic, but don't know which model. Four years ago (shortly after relocating into my own apartment), a friend of mine gave me this vacuum as a house warming gift. Even use it to suck up any spilled laundry powder. There! I just made this discussion more on topic. LOL!--Laundry Shark

Hmmmm...

I've not seen one of those before, very interesting. The belt system looks very similar to the self-propelled W/T's

Where did you buy this from?

It was bought from WalMart for 168.00.
WalMart is the only store that sells these Hoover multi-cyclonic machines >:-|

This machine looks very similar to the "Fusion". At least it looks to have "Fusion" roots as the handles look very similar. I like the look of this machine. It seems to be a very good bargain too considering the price of a dyson. It is definitely a China made Hoover. Cool looking machine!

Fusion - Evolved

When I saw the Fusion I thought: great idea, but crappy execution. I wrote them a long long critical letter.
And, not to be egotistical, but it seriously looks like they took some of my observations and opinions to heart, and built this machine.
This machine is a "fully finished" Fusion idea. The Fusion itself looked like it could've been a great machine if it just had a month or so more in R&D. This Mach 5 is a much nicer finished product.
One thing i said they should do is put together a machine with the dual cyclonic system AND Windtunnel brush nozzel design. And they did! Windtunnel is amazing, and mating it to cyclonic dirt separation is genius!

also similar to the belt system the Hoover Conquest uses. the Conquest is a heavy-duty commercial machine. the belts should last longer and so should the brushroll. of course, in the Conquest, the idler pulley is metal.

Very "dysonish"

Seems to be just another in a line of dyson clones that Hoover and other brands have been knocking out of late.

I'm sure it's not a bad machine by any means, but it's just they're all very 'samey' now.

Who owns the rights to use the HOOVER brand in the US nowadays anyway? It's no longer Maytag..

Also, does Candy produce the HOOVER vacuums in Europe ? as well as the White goods?

well...

how is it for retaining dirt? Does it leak? How is it to empty?
I'll agree the brush looks better than Dyson's, and the windtunnel ductwork will help too.
I just don't care for bagless... period

On a related note I did see the new Dyson SLIM this past weekend at Sears, even had a chance to play with it. I must admit I was pretty impressed(Shhh! listen carefully and you'll hear hell freezing over with that statement!) I liked the weight, and how un-clunky this little Dyson is compared to the full size models, and finally he's got a machine with center suction. Looks nice, then I saw the price... my excitement was very short lived!

use it ?

hey johnb300m let me know how it works / performs whereas I am looking to buy a new vac for my folks ..... looks like this will fit under furniture ? or certainly under a bed ?

First Run!

Well, I vacuumed the apartment tonight for the first time with the Mach 5. It was a pleasure.
Interestingly, the machine is quiet. Most of the noise is the rushing air in the cyclones and the beating of the brush roll. One weird thing is it makes an intermittent whistling noise as I push it to and fro. It seems to be working fine though, so I ignore it. The thing sounds like a hurricane anyway, a quiet hurricane.

It immediately started filling the canister with crud. Within minutes there was schtuff spinning around inside both cyclones. The coolest thing was seeing many of the crumbs and stuff get sucked through the Windtunnel ducting. That design really makes a difference. It pretty much leaves a clean trail after just a few passes, if not just one or two.

The best feature is the dual cyclones. The inner chamber was full of fine dust and lint. All the usual stuff that went straight to the filter in my old Bissell bagless. It was so bad that I would have to clean the Bissell’s filters every other vacuum session.
I did notice that on the post cyclone foam filter that was a slight dust coating, but not nearly enough to write about after the first vacuuming. It looks like I could go many months before having to think about cleaning the post filter.
There is also a HEPA filter cartridge at the end of the exhaust. One of these will have to be purchased new. However, Hoover says they will last 6-12 months. After the first vacuuming, that HEPA filter was spotless; no concerns there.
The suction is quite plentiful and constant, just like they claim. The powered hand brush is cool on the couches.
To be honest, the machine cleans so well that I think I got the vacuuming done a little quicker than usual.

One concern is the flexible hose. It is quite pliable and stretchy. I hope that does not mean it’s weak and will tear soon.

Overall, I really really liked this machine and am very pleased with its performance. It's seriously like getting a Dyson that is less clunky and much cheaper. I love patent expirations.

AND it cleans, although I did like the Dyson DC07 I tried, but the poor little brush could not handle all of my dog's hair.

The whistling you're hearing is the nozzle sealing itself to the carpet, play with the height adjuster, that will go away.

I'd also recommend cleaning the filters after every use, especially if they collect dirt.
Sounds like you have a nice machine john!
