Hello.
For about two weeks on eBay there was an Hoover twin tub (model 0510) on offer. It started at nearly 150$ but then the seller gradually lowered the asking price until reaching down the 100$ floor. For some reason only God knows nobody in the world seem to be interested to buy this unit... So I decided to BUY IT! Wow, the North Canton made 0510-0512 models are somewhat hard to find here in Canada. The fact is that I bought it for a price: 140$ Fed-Ex ground shipping thus making the total price 240$ + some local customs fees (possibly between 20-40$). The seller tells me that the washing machine is small enough to qualify other than freight, which (freight charges) would be more expensive.
BTW, barcoboy, I'd like to tell you I didn't want to ''walk on your toes'', being aware that you are looking for these units. However, I was not sure actually you were willing to pay a considerable sum for a used machine on sale at the other end of the United States--not knowing, moreover, in what shape it is except for a vague idea by a few small pictures! When you think about it, it's kinda crazy!
On the one hand, I intend to keep the unit ''as is''--make no repair of any kind on it. On the other hand, I'll keep it for eventual future use of the washer or for some of its parts (ex. the pump) for eventual repair of my irreplaceable 0610. The reverse is also true in that some parts of the 0610 could fix the 0510.
In a word, barcoboy, hope I didn't ''steal your playground'' in some ways... On the other hand, I too am very enthusiastic about these vintage models (vide, just how much I am willing to pay for one of those!). I am sure you WILL find what you're looking for--most probably at a much lower cost than mine's. And, as I told you before, if I come across a 051x or 061x model on offer at a reasonable distance from your location--that is, Sherbrooke I think--then I will certainly let you know.
