Hoover Twinnie Question

Which are better machines, the older sort of rounded Hoovers or the newer "square lid" styles of the 70's. Just curious if an older one would make a reliable daily user, what are the differences?

Will do you proud. Both are based on simple designs and well constructed.

Thing about Hoover twin tubs is they really are simple machines,and while changes in style an perhaps features and design occured over the years, that was more a reflection of changing tastes, and of course tweaks to keep up with the competition.

Keep in mind, recent vintage machines are probably going to be easier to find spares for, versus older units.

To what's on the market today, any twinnie is going to be an outstanding choice.

For a daily driver, I suspect there is a sweet spot in there. I was using them when they were still fairly new, and the only thing more reliable were the Maytags (except their belts) but tell you what.

Put up another notice or ask Robert to change this one to add a comment like:

Hey - UK Crowd - Big Twinnie Question for You

They have the most experience and knowledge and can probably tell you right down to the serial number when any particular running change went down. Since they are a bit insular compared to the rest of the European crowd, it helps to get their attention directly.

Morning Tim, if you want a daily driver I would use the later 70`s machines, the spin cans will probably stand the test of time...the resiliant spin mounts are better made& the hoses will be the newer solid rubber as well!!!

'Tis Keven and not Kevin, by the by, my grandfather having been born in the Hebrides and not Ireland. (And having been to both, I'll take Ireland's climate any day. Before the snow is after the snow is before the rain is after the rain 365 days a week in that corner of Scotland. Unless, of course, the wind is blowing too strongly, which it does upon occasion.)
Now, I do have a cousin named Caohmin and we both held our sides for laughter when we found out that the English pronunciation comes close to what we both are, too...

That said, I meant it genuinely, you folks in the UK do know far better which Twinnies are built for forever and which suffered the general decline of all Hoover products.

Let's face it, the UK club and I don't get along very well, and haven't since the split-phase discussions of many years back, but that doesn't change the fact that you laddies and ladies also have a lot to contribute and even I wish you folks would participate more. Well, snark at Thomas and me less, that, too.
So a genuine thank you for the input - I also keep an eye out for the Hoovers and am glad to know more about them.
