YOU HAVE THE HOOVER AIR CLEANER!!!

That's the first time I've seen one that wasn't a drawing.

Yow! Between that and all thost DAMs, I'm swooning I tell ya, swooning!

veg (who's swooning!)

Absolutely amazing Hoover collections you guys have. And all those small appliances Tom, that's something else. Saw my blender, can opener and iron in there but I've never seen the big rotiss ovens before that I remember anyways. Do you know who made what for Hoover smalls. Rival made the can openers but not sure about the other stuff like irons, blenders etc.

luxflairguy...that is the Hoover 50th anniversary model from 1958. They were not sold but given to dealers for promotion. They were a model 65 just painted gold. Sorry, but I do not have the cord reel model Hoover just a JCP model. I have seen prototypes for Hoover cord reels into the 70's and they remind me of the singer "a" frame cord reels. Too bad Hoover never put them into production.

Veg...yes that is a genuine Hoover air purifier bought for $5 at a Church rummage sale across the street from the Hoover factory. It has an electronic element and a charcoal filter...it still works.

Petek...yes Rival badged their can openers, Knapp-Monarch who Hoover bought out in 1969 made the bulk of the other stuff. Presto made their coffee pots. They made their own skillets by a process perfected here in North Canton by bonding the stainless steel to the aluminum. There were many other manufacturers involved...just cannot think of them all off of the top of my head. Hoover just did not have the plant capacity to make everything. I am looking for a cordless toothbrush model with the Hoover name. These appliances were not always the best...they just had a great name on them!

Thanks for the compliments.

Greg

Greg! Did you know i have a model 704? I bought it in Joshua Tree one day when Dave Olsen and I were on a hunt. It was in my room for a while but it is in storage for the time being. I was in Redlands at the Vacuum Shop on Orange street one day and they had a Hoover Convertible Model U4119 ( Ton and Jeff will know this model) with this big blue ugly DVC brand bag. But the handle had a Hoover cord reel on it! It was off white and the same yellow as the 704! so i bought it, and i'm not going to tell you what I paid for it but as soon as i got home I put that handle/cord reel on my 704 and what a perfect fit! So i don't have a 704-01 but a 704 with the 704-01's handle. that make sense because i'm officially confused!

Tom! What a fabulous collection you have there!I love the way you have it displayed!

Now about that air-cleaner.. It looks suspiciously similar to a small table top model I have had for about 25 years. When you open it up does it have a removable plate assembly at the back then a dividing wall, perhaps made of wood with a regular type fan mounted on/in it. The front grill sort of a metal honeycomb, the back grill is metal I think but made up of many small performations. ? In fact if I remember the whole base of the unit that everything mounts on is wood, the cabinet is sheet metal.

OMG, you guys have such wonderful collections! The colors are just amazing to see and the displays you've all made are breathtaking. I hope to see some of these sometime in person.

lets see, what can i contribute.....YES...

the often hidden rarely mentioned underside of the Hoover...first we have the model 31 Convertible. introduced in 1957, mine, im told, is a late version of the 31. notice the cream colored base. i forget if the brushroll is original to this machine. was in excellent condition when found at Goodwill. PS, please dont notice my foot in the frame.

now the underside of one of the LAST metal-based Convertible styles. from 1989, the Guardsman. see any similarites to the late 50s Convertible? note, that is not the correct agitator. correct agitator is chromed with red bristles.

lastly

the outrageously overweight Heavy Duty model 913. from the late 60's (?). i stole this agitator from an earlier model 913, with model 63 style brushes. this is my favorite Hoover. notice the beefy all-metal construction. bottom-plate removed, so that you may see the *unmentionables*.

well

the underside is where all the action is on a Hoover, its where all the drama happens! when i see an interesting cleaner, the first thing i often do is look underneath. David

Now compare that to what you'll find underneath a Dyson.

I got to thinking the other day when I was in Sears looking at the Dysons, they look like they'd make marvy little houses for pet hamsters with all that neon plastic, tubes and such, just like the ones in the pet stores.

I wouldn't call it drama

I'd call it ACTION.

Pete a couple of years ago jack and I were out on a walk and we spotted a Dyson in the trash. Jack has to check out everyone's trash, and he spent several minutes sniffing the Dyson, before he.... well... lifted his leg and baptized it.

Good boy Jackie!
