My local vacuum shop isn't stocking Hoover brush belts for all my Hoover convertible uprights anymore. He says that the recent ones are all junk or after-market crap that break easily.

Is there another source for these? I've gone online to eBay and found belts from various sources: new ones labeled "Hoover", vintage "Hoover" (shrink-wrapped on cardboard with pictures of the vacuums on them), "Endust" brand (old packages); and no-name. Any advice would be appreciated. Are the old ones worth buying or does age affect them? Thank you.

What belts to you need?

Have a packet of vintage Hoover vacuum belts that one purchased years ago thinking they could work on my Twin Tub washer. They couldn't so have been sat sitting ever since.

Then have several bags of vacuum belts and other parts from various makers that one acquired earlier this year. Have been meaning to catalog and sell on but haven't got around to it yet. IIRC did mention it here in the group at the time but heard nothing but crickets.

Whatever you do, don't use Eureka/Sanitaire RD belts...

I've heard that even though the design scheme between the Hoover and Eureka are similar, a Eureka RD belt on a Hoover direct air upright will be a super tight fit, tight enough that it can warp the shaft and kill motor bearings. The belt for the Hoover Guardsman should work. I don't know the part number off the top of my head, but it should be readily available on eBay, Amazon, etc.

The Guardsman is based off of the old Hoover direct-air machines, including the Decade 80 and the Convertible, much like how a Sanitaire is a modern day descendant of the old Eureka F&G uprights.

Thank youse.

The belt(s) I need are for the old Convertible, Decade 80 and similar models. They used to be made out of black round rubber with tiny ridges running longitudinally. The number on the belts I saw consistently was "Type 48".

Here is the listing one put up at the time.

Didn't take pictures of package as no digital camera at the time.

Found the packet

It says here:

"Hoover 2 Vacuum Cleaner Belts"

Fits Hoover Convertible cleaners

Part #49258

Packet is a bit beat up, but belts are fine.

Purchased years ago when got the Hoover TT as thinking they would work as replacement for pump belts. They wouldn't and so have been sat sitting ever since.
