Hoover--What were they thinking?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I didn't know there were other than black. Could you post a pic of it regardless of what shape it's in. A small vac store near me has a Concept self propelled I wouldn't mind getting but he wants about $75 for it and it's a little scratchy to look at for that amount. I don't think I've seen any Concepts here that weren't self propelled they must have been a popular seller. When they brought the Windtunnel out in Canada you could get the self propelled version then those disappeared and all you could find were the regular ones. But now I see they might be back again as a local store has the new bagless Windtunnel selfpropelled on sale for $239 Cdn. quite cheap considering they used to sell for well over $300 here. I can't remember what I paid for that PowerMax, I got it at Costco, but it was in the $300 range I think

PowerMAX & Concepts

Pete,
When the PowerMAX first came out there were 4 models, in black, dark green, crimson red, and dark blue. In 1993 they revised the line somewhat dropping the black model and then they were dark green, crimson red, dark blue and teal green. On the green, red or blue model the 1992 models are easily distinguished from the 1993 models, as the '93 models will have the "Cleaning Effectiveness per amp" rating on them.
Is your powermax Canadian or US made?
As to Concept Ones, I'd venture a guess that the self propelled models outsold regular ones by about 3:1. They were excellent cleaners, still reasonably lightweight and maneuverable, and the powerdrive made them glide across the thickest rugs!

Mine is made in the USA. It's likely that Costco here was the only place that even sold the PowerMax, can't say for sure, but in all likelihood the other colors were never offered because I'd have probably seen one somewhere. I've only seen the odd black one for sale used. The stand alone Hoover store had closed by then I'm thinking when I bought this one.

how odd

I remember seeing the Black model, was only available at Best Buy, which opened their first stores in the Chicago area in 1992.
I'll dig out my PowerMax tonight and post a pic of it.

PowerMAX was followed by

Powerdrive, chunkier and a bit clumsy, but IMHO a better machine than the PowerMAX. These were made 1994-1997. I've been using this as a daily driver, I like it very much!

Hoover Celebrity with Air-Switch

I have been meaning to post some pictures of the Hoover Celebrity with the Air Switch, but have been without my digital camera for a few days now.. My father is on vacation in NYC, and took it with (the camera, not the Hoover). Next week, sometime I'll post them.

I see a all green Convertable 707. I have one of those. What is the history of this vacuum? Was it a promotional model?
