Hoovermatic T5024 spin vibration

I've recently added a Hoovermatic T5024 to my twin tub collection. It's in superb order but is much noisier (vibration mostly) on spin than my other Hoover machines. Even without anything in the spinner, there is quite a lot of vibration throughout the acceleration curve as it ramps up to full speed, and at full speed there is still vibration transmitted through the casing and back panel etc. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to remedy it?

Hi Jensen, fab looking machine you have there!!
The vibration could be because the can is slightly off centre ?
Be good to catch up sometime

Hi Keith, thanks for the reply and sorry it's been so long! The can was off centre when I took that picture but since then I've centred it and the problem remains. It's annoying - in every other respect the machine is like new!

Rubber Mounts

I am no expert on these machines, but what about the rubber mounts for the spinner?

hi all

the later Hoovermatics were made with thinner steel thats why they vibrate whilst getting up to speed they just wernt as sturdy as the older round corner machines .I have a 5090 that used to vibrate in the same way i got round the problem by pushing some carpet underlay up between the tub wall and the outer cabinet.i did this on all three sides and even managed to shove some foam cushion into the gap between the spin container and the cabinet .I got the idea from a friend who did somthing a little more drastic [he squirted expanding foam into the gaps] now while this was very efective i would imagine its in there for good and wouldnt fancy trying to get it out having said that his machine is so quiet you can hear the water hiting the outer can when the spindryer is in use .thinking about this i am suprised Hoover didnt try somthing like this when building these machines hope this helps

Hi Gary, yes the rubber mounts are next for replacement. Here's hoping that works as I've replaced or serviced just about everything else!

Hi Anthony- thanks for your suggestions, I know what you mean about the relative build quality compared to the early machines, though the last ones still put modern machines to shame. Actually, my T5090 is one of the smoothest and quietest machines I have, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why. Similarly the pump on the T5024 is exceptionally fast when emptying the tub - presumably it is one of the rare ones with no air leaks, but even if so it is noticeably more efficient than the others I have.

I like the fact that there are subtle differences in all the machine's operation - even two identical machines next to each other don't behave exactly the same way (and yes I have tried it!). Who knows, maybe there's a vestige of the personality of the human element that built each one all those years ago in Merthyr Tydfil...

yes i know what you mean

i have also had quite a fiew hoovermatics over the years and they all seem diffrent although everyone of the latter models vibrates on start up i distinctly remember my mum thinking there was somthing wrong with hers when one day it didnt make the usual racket when she put the spinner lid down.She was a Hoover twintub veteran she had at least 5 of the things over the course of 30 years and loved them she wouldnt entertain any other brand the same with vacuums only HOOVER would do
