One thing Persil surely isn't is a bargain brand.  Maybe Persil is taking Wisk's shelf space, but it's not replacing Wisk in any other sense.

Exactly. Indeed, I was irritated by the official Wisk announcement that said basically: we're going bye bye, but you can buy a more expensive detergent instead!!!! A more appropriate suggestion, I'd think, is All (and, in fact, I think they suggested All for people insisting on unscented detergent).

I haven't used Persil, but I assume that it would have better cleaning power than Wisk. That said, it also has a much higher price tag.

I have a nearly empty bottle of Wisk that I got last fall. I was frankly not wild about it. It was a good buy at $3, and did reasonably well with my typical load, which is mostly about freshening. Although much of the freshening it did was actual cleaning, and how much was just the impression of freshness due to the perfume stench is debatable. But I really don't consider Wisk that great. It's was an OK budget buy. But I'm not sure that it really should rank as #2 detergent. Although perhaps the formula CR likes is different. (I got non-HE, and perhaps they tested HE.) I can say that recently I started using All Free Clear Oxi, and I can't say I noticed much of a difference between it and Wisk. Except All Free Clear doesn't have a lingering scent stench, of course.

"There is a vacuum supply business in Virginia "

Since Miele North America was the sole importer of Persil products via exclusive agreement, authorized dealers also sold the stuff including Miele vacuum dealers. That all ended a year or so ago which is why Miele USA no longer carries Persil.

Persil *had* an online store for USA sales but seems that was just to clear out stock, as they've not had much if anything in quite some time.

While Henkel obviously wants American consumers to purchase the stuff they are flogging here, you can still find the "German" Persil here and there. A local shop near us has various gel versions and IIRC some powders/mega-perls. Gracious Home was out of Persil for a bit, but they got restocked and had a full line until going bankrupt.

You can also try where America shop; Amazon.com for a decent selection of Persil both German and American versions.

When I was at my local Target this weekend they DID have a few Persil items on clearance. The larger 2-in-1 bottle and the pacs. Maybe they are getting a new formula? They also moved Persil into the aisle as opposed to an end cap. They have it with Tide now.

I've been very happy with Wisk and it cleans noticeably better than the Sears powder I was using. CR rates it just below the regular Persil, so that must say something good about it haha. I know some people don't care for CR but I've found them to be very good with reviews.

I agree, Joe. CR has the best testing methodology and they don't take money from corporations, etc. Let the haters hate. Some here rant and rave against CR, but still like to know what it has to say about a product when it comes to make a purchase.

I went back to my Walmart today to pick up a few more bottles for my mom. No more Pearls! No tag, no bottles....aack! hopefully it is temporary. Amazon has them, but 2x the price.
