Unless the East Side Wal-Mart in Cedar Rapids does an interim restock, [this morning], I bought their last box of Tide Original with Bleach and the last two jumble boxes of Tide Clean Breeze with Bleach. Other purchases from recent Wal-Mart runs include two boxes of Fresh Linen Cheer and two huge boxes of this "Ocean Breeze" or "ocean-Scented" Surf. So now I have at least twenty boxes of various powder detergents in my closet, not counting powdered bleaches and borax. Of course, the only liquid I use is Downy April Fresh.--Laundry Shark

We old time powder users might have our choices reduced to products like the Sears, SA8 and Persil powders, especially for HE formulas. I do think liquids have their place; sometimes they seem to work better on oil-based dirt, but as they are formulated now, I do not prefer them for most of my laundry.

I picked up two boxes of Tide with Bleach at Walgreens last week, because they were 2 for $7....

The supermarkets still seem committed to carrying the Tide and Arm and Hammer powders....they are not decreasing the space allotted them, but fewer variants of each are available.

I've also noticed, in this area, that Cheer products have come down sharply in price. The liquids still have the same variety of formulas, the powder is down to plain Cheer...but they are now priced a few dollars LESS than Gain products in general, which I thought was interesting.

I'd be saddened if Cheer, yet another legacy brand, was actually being phased out, particularly the powder. It is the only mass-market product I am aware of that does not contain optical brighteners for darks, yet it still cleans.
