I always have liked electric hot plates. The ones with the ceramic insulated burners with coils of wire in the grooves always scared me though.

Anyway, show us any hot plates/mini ranges you may have!

The hot plate we had was a single burner unit, with the open coil element in a ceramic holder, as you mention. The housing was chrome plated, and had loop handles on the sides. The brand was Fostoria Div. Bersted Mfg. Co., which was the budget price division of McGraw Edison. I truthfully don't know if I still have this item or not. If so, it's packed up somewhere.

Mine is not an old one. But I bought it after Irma went through Florida. We were without electricity for a week. We have a generator for the refrigerators. Could have used the hot plate to cook a few things. Mainly used the crockpot all week. It’s a Fagor induction one. Tried it a few times and it is pretty nice to cook on.
