btw...

My machine has already the enamelled spin can and has the same colour as the washer compartment: dark black-blue with white splatters. Also the strainer at the bottom has changed into a kind of a red sieve and the heater element goes totally around in a circle in a double rail.
Last but not least the clearly marked switches have been changed into somewhat more complex but still are easy to use. And the switch at the plug has gone, too... Progress!! lol

So you drain the wash tub using the filter flo and you drain the spinner with the skinny guy that wraps up in the back, but does this beauty spin rinse or not?

Are Hoover and Hotpoint still making TT's in UK/Euro ?

By the way, it was supposed to be Don in the Spanker, but after that Apex taunt, you deserved it anyway. Cheers!!!

Removing Items From Boil Wash

Hoover and indeed most other twin tubs sold in Europe/UK offered various tongs one could use to grip and lift hot laundry over to the spin tub. Again, this is a hold over from the old copper and dolly stick days of doing wash, when either a large pole or some sort of tong like thing would be used to fish out and remove laundry from the boiling pot. You did'nt think "Her Indoors" reached into a boiling pot of water and fetched out laundry, did you?

When using my twin tub, always wear those long "rubber" gloves to protect my hands from hot water and such. One day had to run to answer the door whilst twin tubbing, and a gf commented "What are you up to? Helping a cow deliver her calf?"

The only cows to be seen in that area are suburbanites coming in for the holdays to shop! Ducks and runs!

And before anyone has a hissy-fit, Manhattanites do a lot more walking. You do the math. *LOL*
I'm getting "secretarial-spread" now that I am a suburabanite too!
 
What a beauty!

Even though I'm saying it through gritted teeth, I do think the Hotpoint TTs were superior to the Hoovermatic (or the Supertwin, for that matter) in terms of ease and simplicity of use. Less fussy with being overloaded too, and lint free with great rinsing capability.

Mike, how could you part with it!?!? The only two things that ever bugged me about my Hottie TTs were the spin can interlock and the splashiness when emptying. Huw used to just take the agi out first...

Isn't the font on the console similar to Hoover's late sixties/early seventies UK one, all squared up? Wonder who did it first?

Launderesse, I use both: woodden tongues and rubber gloves when doing a fully loaded wash because it happens sometimes that water runs into the gloves when reaching into the tub and it is essential when doing "very hot"/80°C or even "boil"/100°C washes as the heat is too strong not to go through the gloves!

Simon, yes, that is the reason why I find the Hotties slightly better than the Hoovers, but one thing I do not like very much with them Hotties: their hight! Hoovers and especially AEG Lavalux' have a much more convenient hight to work with when you are taller than 160 cm! But if it comes to very fast washing days - Hoover is unbeatable. On the other hand: with Hoovers less washing in a load is definitely more in that machine, whereas a Hotpoint can cope with one or two articles more without making any trouble!
You can see (go to Yahoo!), that I have a Hotpoint and a Hoover and use both ad libitum.

And..., Leon, yes they spin at 3,100 rpm! Light articles can be ironed straight away and especially in winter-time when the weather is cold and humid, washing is drying much better! But one thing we all do not keep in mind when it comes to high spin-speeds....
The better spun (in between rinsing cycles as for the final spin, too) the LESS residues of chemicals (detergents) will be in the garments, too! I formed once the phrase (which I derived from the old days saying: well soaked is half washed): Well spun is half rinsed! Good for people with allergies!

"Palavering," as Laundress would say, to know

the speed of the agitation: is it the short fast stroke like the GE & HP automatics or the longer slower version like the Easy's.

Always appreciate how much the Easy Spiralator and Hotpoint Spiral resemble each other--two beautiful and very agile agitators.
 
Super supermatic

Great to see the 1450 supermatic - both one of my Grans and an aunt each had that model, though as it was in Ireland it was rebranded the Gala Filtermatic (I always thought the Filtermatic name quite cool). We had the 1502 Gala Automatic shown in the Design Unit profile. Love the raised bar controls...do you have the worktop cover too - at that point (about 1968) the worktop was in a funky dark-teak effect - right back in fashion now...

Are the filter-clean tray and agitator (or should I say gyrator in Hotpoint-speak?) replacements? The early automatics had a straight centre moulding, rather than the tapered style on later models. The Spiraclean knob looks like the later version with the o-ring to hold on the later type filter-clean tray. Minor details of course - it is a fantastic machine...your collection must be record-breaking by now!
