Help Support :

glenfield... thanks for the reply and filling me in on what they do. there are no holes in the paddles, so maybe it is a replacement for this machine just with the newer style?
miele4ever... yeah ok will do
henrypeter21... there are not many differences apart from the outside casing, and jack does not have a 9526 anymore, broke about a year ago.
aussie... cheers austin
supermaticjames... yeah we do aha, and tbh i prefer the newer drum look, but would really like to get my hands on an older door glass. yeah aha but it fell off at the yard i got it from and is lost now.
hoover1100...its a 9517 you have in storage isnt it? and yeah i blooming well have, when i put the fascia back on it cracked behind the dial, but luckily its not visible, and the sides are very very loud on spin. and actually, it does buzz when its draining, but when the waters gone out of the drum it goes like this. so i can tell when its emptied. sounds great when it starts to drain.
cheers for the links will definately look into it as i really want this looking perfect too.
thank you all for your kind replies and help for things i was unsure of.
george!:D

well done

George on completing the repair, I hope your justly proud of yourself, you should be enjoying that machine for many years to come.

I hope you treat yourself to the replacement door handle and whatever strips you need, just to finish the restoration off perfectly.

Matt, thats the model my grandmother replaced the english electric liberator with, it was the first machine I had seen in action spin at 1000 rpm. Yes they may have been thin cabinets, though stronger than what was to follow, (thinking of the creda supaspeeds and later dryers especially) and yet the pannels all came off for ease of repair.

I think its safe to say this series of machines washed for a generation.

Well done

Mathew

Great thread!

We got one of these machines brand new in 1988/89 to replace out 18371 hotty!

I can confirm it had that door glass from new. Perhaps they used those toward then end and on to the later restyled doors.

Ours had one of those drums fitted but we got one with holes in the paddles which turned it into an Aquarius wash system :-p

It didn't cause any problems and it danced around for another 6 years after that.

I'd love to find one to relive those old memories as well as a spin slider models from the same time perood. The countless times it used to lunge out and being 5 or 6 and the dryer being stacked ontop was pretty scary! Also I remember accidentally starting the spin on the wrong part of the dial and it span instantly full of water!!

Drum size in Hotpoint WM / Aquarius range

For those who are wondering about drum size, here's the page from the 1995 brochure where it gives you the specs...

Increased capacity did not mean a bigger drum...

The Ultima models apparently had the same size too...despite taking an extra 0.5 kg...

Does anyone have a full brochure with these specs from the 9lb loaders (later range brochures probably did; earlier ones didn't)?

excuse me.

yes philip but did i tell people what it did? i said the red programs have something to do with a button. i suggest you read what i say before you start being funny on my restoration thread.

well..

if you read what i put philip i think youll find that what i said("the ones in red are in connection to one of the option buttons i think? not sure which one though.")
is actually true isnt it? because 6 is red and does have a connection with the buttons. an apology would be nice, you know how much i hate people getting picky and ridiculous about nothing.

My 2 pennies worth...

I'm not sure about the option buttons really. But as far as i'm aware they have nothing to do with the colours corresponding on the programme díal. I actually read that If you press both Half load and Economy in it will do a very Quick wash. About 10 tumbles and then advance onto cooldown in which it will then do 2 2 RINSES. Not 3 as some people have been suggesting lol. As far ás I'm aware the 9534 NEVER had the later drum/bowl on. These are replacements. Anyone suggesting they are original obviously don't know the facts. Trust me, I know!!

George if you want to find out more info then read the manual and more discussíons on here. Plenty have left threads on 9534.

Half Load & Eco Wash

I was going to say hotpointfan95 using Half Load & Eco wash have a very quick wash - however, not pressing half load, you will get deeper water level, and still a very quick wash because eco wash is still selected. So Phill is technically right as that's what the manual says, however he is also wrong, as quick wash also activates with only eco wash - eco wash is no Heat, so the heat stage is voided, this means it is a quickwash, as there is only 1 stage of wash after heating, well not heating, just one stage of wash.
Technically there are 3 rinses, because the stage after the Cooldown, although very quick is a rinse i personally think, otherwise it would still be filling & draining. (also read point 4 on page 13 of Phill's Instructions)

Matt...

On the 95's when the machine clicks to do the cooldown it will drain/fill for a while bringing the temp down from 50/60c (depending on what version 95 you have) and once it's reached a cooler temputure it will advance again and fill higher to finish the cooldown phase. THEN it goes onto 2 rinses!!

Also with the Quick Wash, it clearly states that Half Load and Economy have to be pressed in for the Quick Wash. This is because the Quick Wash is only designed for a smaller load.

Regarding the drum/door bowl, they ARE NOT original. The later versions with the recessed door had them.

Quick Wash and Drum

We need to bear in mind that the "Quick Wash" (which first appeared on the 9534 range) was not a programme so to speak.

It is merely no.6 with economy wash selected, if the incoming water already fills at 40c (as ours does when we have it plumbed in) the machine won't heat on 6 (or 5) anyway, so quick wash will be the same as 6, with or without economy pressed. Half load reduces the water level, but does not affect the length of the programme (which runs at about 30mins), so it is possible to use this programme with or without half load without affecting the wash time.

Our 9530 and the 9517 we have now sold do 3 rinses on all synthetics programmes regardless of whether half load is pressed, the machine fills and drains several times for the cool down, then advances straight into the first rinse, before draining completely and carrying out 2 further rinses. This occurs at any temperature on these programmes.

As Darren (aitcho86) noted above, he grew up with a 9534 from new which had this drum and door glass originally, so these machines most definitely were sold with this drum and glass in the later production run. Although it is possible that in this machine these have been replaced, it is highly likely they are original to this machine.

cheers for the info matt.
im currently carrying out yet another repair to the hotpoint as the armature in the motor has worn out causing it it to lose most of its power when spinning, usually meaning the 1000rpm spin cycle is carried out at slow bosch speed.

Nice example! We had one of these - bought new in 1987 from Rumbellows, just before the "hurricane". I came across a photo of it in our kitchen recently from about 1988.

It was pretty unreliable - the pressure tube to detect the water level was forever getting blocked so the machine would fill until water poured out the soap dispenser drawer. Then when it drained, it took so long for the water to drain that it would start spinning with the drum still 1/3 full. Was it just our machine that did that or was it a design fault?! I can remember it being repaired (cleaned out) about 3-4 times a year.

An unbalanced spin would make the machine lunge forward, and it would regularly suds lock especially with towels in.

After about 7-8 years my mum got fed up with it keep overflowing, so it was replaced with a Zanussi, and then 2 weeks later another Zanussi, and then 2 weeks later a Siemens after both Zanussis failed with the same fault!
