Hotpoint 9544 FL new carbon bushes installed

This is my Mams 23 year old washer, it lives in a wash house out building and has worked without fault for 23 years.(well almost!)

In its past it has had 1 new drive belt, a new spade connector on the thermostat, a pressure sensor pipe on the door lock re attached as it fell off, a replacement door ( wrong one i know ) fitted when something fell on it and broke original one and about 6 sets of carbon bushes or brushes.

The machine was originally "polar" white but after a few months in storage it came back nicotine yellow, it has lightened up since then, but as it lives in a separate room its appearance doesn't really matter. So its looking a little rough.

My Mam loves that it only takes about an hour to do a 60c wash or 45 mins to do a warm wash unlike modern machines. she only uses liquids (i know i know) and never has any issue with mould or smells , probably due to the higher water levels.

Here is the first link to video of it ramping up to spin, it sounds noisier than it actually is as I filmed on I Phone in small room with lid off, this is just after new bushes installed and they are bedding in.

The drum has no free play or rumble so it looks set to last as while longer , however the commutor (?) is worn down by 3mm or so where the bushes run over it LOL

here you can see im a bit naughty sliding the spin speed selector up and down ( its always set to fastest (1000 RPM on cottons 700 RPM synthetics) and opening the door when its spinning, due to the wrong door you can do this ! but there are no children near this machine.

excuse the black fingers from the carbon dust and you can see the old bushes had split and fell apart and over heated.

Very much like my Creda which also has an appetite for carbon brushes. Was Hotpoint the only manufacturer to place the motor above the tub? This is the only group of machines I have seen with this motor placement other than the EASY combomatic from the 50s.

I think so

Hi I think hotpoint was the only one to place the motor here, but I'm not sure, I know Hoover servis bendix indesit phillips etc were all below the drum. Having it here makes it much easier to service
