Hi all.

I've got a UK Hotpoint 9605 top loader (Hotpoint Electronic 1050 De luxe) which is about 25-30 years old. It wont spin properly and I'm looking for help in finding how to fix it.

The spin cycle works only intermittently and when it does work it doesn't always reach full speed. I can't see any pattern to when it does or doesn't work. Can anybody suggest the likely problem or tests I can do to identify the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

Clutch Shoes

Hi Joe,

It sounds like you’re experiencing a common problem here. There is a clutch inside the pulley on the bottom end of the motor that the belt to the gearbox goes around. Inside this pulley are two small clutch shoes that wear down and lose grip resulting in a weak spin.

These are relatively cheap and easy to replace if you have the correct spanner and a flat head screwdriver.
