funny you should mention gremlins... despite me actually liking the maching i now have, it is the third one i have had from them

machine 1) did my first load, and the towels came out with rubber over them. the drum was out of allignment, and during the fast spin the door seal was shreaded into lots of pieces

machine 2) was delivered within 48 hrs. The drum was struggling to turn, and in the end, gave up the ghost. this was on the 95* instalation cycle

machine 3) my current one... running fine BUT the pump is so noisy.... so bloddy noisy! im going to make video of it, so you can hear how bad it is

....all of this in the space of 6 weeks or so........

I work in an appliance sales shop and we sold a customer one with what sounds like the same problem as your 1st machine- she has grey streaks on her duvet

the grey streaks would be the rubber seal i guess.... its such a shame because these machines were hotpoints chance to reinstate confidence in their brand.... done the opposite to me i am affraid!

.....and the duvet cycle is shite!!

This video shows about 30 seconds of the Wool cycle that i mentioned previously... the water level is high, and the speed you see the drum turning is the speed it does the whole way through the cycle - it does not stop turning until the cycle has finished... its fab!!

this is the shirts cycle... loads of heavy agitation, but very high water levels. slow final spin, and the machine will keep rotating after the cycle until you empty it
could be doing with a temp of 50*c in my opinion

Hi Chris fab videos thanks. Nice to see one of these in action. Problem with the door rubber reminds me of the design flaw in our Indesit 2000 series machine back in the 80's when it was launched. We had one of the first machines and the door seal was a bad design and caught clothes in it all the time ripping either the clothes or the seal. They soon redesigned it and then it was no bother ever again. It makes me reluctant to buy any machine thats new on the market as there are always things that the designers have got a bit wrong and need a fix for. Same applies to anything really thats new. Anyway, hope to speak to u soon and as your not far from me perhaps we can get together.
I'm bidding on the old style Hoover vision on ebay which i've been after for ages. cant wait to get some vids done of that in action!!

Steve: What you were saying about your Indesit 2000 is surprising... surly stuff like that shows up in tests before you release a machine on to the market!!! They can't do a good job of testing then, lol

slowing down

here you see the machine slowing down from spin, and the pump going off... the drum keeps spinning, and you wont hear a thing - that is how quiet it is!!

OMG!!! I love those water levels!! As you say, it is loads for such a modern machine... think that's about as high as the Sensitive rinse in my AEG, and is definitely Hoover Logic style! Is that water level only on woollens, or does it get that high in cottons or synthetics cycles too? Could you possible do a vid of the cottons rinse? Thanks!

For such a machine that I hated at first, I think I'm starting to fall in love with them. Love starts with hate and all that... Who knows, once the bugs have been ironed out there migth be one sitting next to my Miele!

the water levels are high on:
Silk
Wool
Shirts
Duvets

the final cotton rinse has a high water level, but the normal rinse/wash levels are below the door

the synthetic cycle has a high water level...

ill do some vids tonigt as the light is making the quality awful, sorry

Adam, i think its the same across many products that are new out. like cars riddles with design flaws until they get out to the general public. factory testing doesn't equate to real world useage. I seem to remember the Servis quartz having a design flaw in the program if you selected cool wash with something else it would fail, and Hoover had fire problems on the new wave soft wave range because the heater was under the door gasket and water dripped onto it. Manufacturers may have been making things for years that are reliable but when the redsign something they usually dont forese a whole range of new problems cropping up.

I won the Hoover vision everybody! Will pick it up this week and gets some videos done asap of it running. Can't wait.

Oh dear

Hotpoint do it again! I can think of at least 4 occasions where design flaws have cost Hotpoint money.

1, Early 90s. Hotpoint install a silver ring between the door seal and drum. All looks very nice but guess what, clothes torn to shreds. Refit of rubber door seal needed and clothes having to be replaced. Not such a pretty investment!

2, Early 2000s. The One button. This was supposed to allow you to wash one item economically. But guess what, item left ringing wet with an error message 'unbalanced load'. The instructions said you had a make a load up to even out spins, so what were Hotpoint thinking. Button changed to Mini load and now dropped.

3, Early 2000s. Rubbish drum bearings. I knew 2 people who had to have machines replaced because the drum bearing failed. The engineer said it was a design fault and Hotpoint had now changed their bearings. How much more money lost??

4, Now. My own personal gripe. I like my Hotpoint WD640 washerdryer but it spins at top speed while at high heat tumble dry. I have mentioned this before but it really bugs me. It sets creases in stone, nearly ruining my clothes.

Today's manufacturors really need to think about these things. Maybe they should consult us eh???
