Does anyone in the club own a DuoLoad or know someones who does? This is quickly becoming an unholy grail for me. I remember CU rated it close to the bottom of the ratings for 1969's Washing Machine issue ( one of CU's major gripes was how difficult it was to disassemble the agitator to clean sand out of it...WTF!), but it had the Frigidaire and one of the last Philco's for company. I just have to see that control panel!

I'm guessing one can't use chlorine bleach while washing darks?

Was this true Hotpoint engineering before GE killed it in favor of their own?

Steve, yes it was true Hotpoint. Now, I dio remember one of the magaizne ads saying you could wash the whites and hot and the reds in cold in the same load, but I'm not sure how it did this. Maybe bleaching capability was similar, I don't know that.

Ah, the true Hotpoints. We don't see enough of these, and I wish there were more. Thanks for posting the pic.

Have a good one,
James

I believe water control was separate and was delivered to the small tub up through holes in the agitator. The bleach dispenser was inside the agitator as well(I remember this from old Clorox ads which featured some of our favorite machines from that period)and made the agitator itself an impressive bit of true Hotpoint engineering. There was a huge plastic top that looked like a GE filterpan that went on top of the small tub; I still don't know what it was for other than to cover and seal the mini-tub. I also remember plastic "vanes" that circled the top perimeter of the porcelain washbasket that now I'm guessing were for draining the mini-tub during the spin. Robert posted the patent for this unit and I'm trying to find it in my files.

All this is guesswork which is why I'm trying hard to hunt one down. This model was around for about 4 years: they introduced it paired with a genuine Hotpoint dryer. In the picture I posted above, the control panel has changed a little and its mate is obviously a GE clone. The phase-out of Hotpoint has already begun.
