I just picked up a "new" dryer, my 4th one.
Hotpoint DLL2650BHL(AD=almond)
Ser # RD307323H

My favorite appliance age website says August 78 or 1990, can anyone tell from the pics?

It's still out in the garage, but I plugged it in, it turns quietly, the drum light works, and I can hear a difference from AIR FLUFF to HIGH HEAT, like it's trying to light but no gas hookup. So, for $20, I think it should be ok, if it heats up when connected in the basement.

My only known website for checking age is in the link. It tells me Aug 78 or 90. The almond color seems identical to my 77 GE Filter-Flo, but that's indoors hooked up and this is out in the garage, and I'm color-blind, so don't trust me. But it makes me think 78, not 90.

1983?

this is from a 1983 Hotpoint catalog I found in a searchilator "hotpoint dryer."
Can anyone guess mine is from 78 and still being sold in the 83 catalog, or mine is from 90, stll being sold from the 83 catalog? Mine is DLL2650B, the first listed in STANDARD CAPACITY

I am not sure if it is a 1978 or 1990, I would open it up and look at the date codes on the thromostats, they will either ..78 or .. 90 the dots being the week of the year that the part was made. These are decent dryers if your vent system is not to long and restricted. But is is still no WP or KM gas dryer.

This is definatly not a 1978 dryer - we had the 1977 pair. I have a picture of the 1978 dryer style!

I have the same dryer you bought, Gas Model. I can honestly say it is a workhorse and the only thing I ever replaced was the lint filter. I had purchased it in early 1990 then kept if for 2 years, Gave to my Sister in law to use for about 7 years then she gave it back to me still in perfect condition.I then let my Tenant use the dryer for all these years to present and I use it now also. I think I got my moneys worth out of that machine and still dries like a champ. I will say I could not even tell you how long to set the timed cycle to dry loads of clothes because I always use the Auto Dry cycle with success every time. (I am a firm believer in the Auto Dry cycles even in my Maytag 1000 washer/dryer I have at the shore house.) I dont like guessing with times to dry. the only time i use the times cycle if i have to fluff up something. Lots of luck with your new purchase..

It needed a new igniter, and when inside I saw those glides/drum supprts needed replacing too, all tolled about $30 on top of a $20 purchase. TONS OF LINT hidden inside, glad I had to tear it down before using. It's not silent, a very minor scrape somewhere I haven't figured yet, but I had a similar BOL GE years ago that ran for ages with some eternal squeaks that never seemed to bother it, so I am not too worried. Yes, it seems to do a fine job of Auto-Dry, and even though it's a Hotpoint, it is almond and a damn close stylistic match to my GE Filter-Flo almond washer, a great pair together.
I almost never use the timed cycle either, I have gotten very good at estimating the dryness level to set for the dryer. She works well for sure.
Also, I have a Maytag DE606, very small drum, and a Kenmore recent model, huge drum, so this one being about medium makes it a perfect addition to my dryer collection.

When it was all apart, I took that dented metal console piece and put it on a carpet, then lightly hammed through a small block of wood. It's about 90% improved in looks, dent almost gone, and the almond paint job is near perfect. I swear half of the fun of these washers and dryers is in the repair/restore of some dime store cheap used appliances, it's amazing how cheaply some folks sell their used junk!

It is a great machine I like the fact on the Dark speckled tub that you dont get those wear marks on the tub (brown or blue) on it when you dry dark color loads, the only issue I have with the dryer is when I use Bounce it ends up in the filter and I really am not a bounce bar fan because I dont use it for all loads.
I have even went as far as Safety Pin a Bounce to a washcloth so it dont land in the Filer.
but I can live with that..

all my dryer sheets in this Hotpoint end up in the lint filter after just a few minutes. It's hilariuous, up the thread a bit, they even advertise Bounce with a Hotpoint!
