Hi, Paul
What do you think of it? Is it exactly what you had hoped for?
It was worth the effort just to preserve the machine, don’t think the paint is as thick as the original and I did chip the bottom edge re-fitting the cabinet which was inevitable, time will tell if the dreaded rust creeps in, I whish I could keep all the machines in the house not out in the cold garage.
As for the L5, can you get the cabinet off like on the early Hotpoint’s?
If I had to do another machine I think I would try a car body shop to compare the finish.
I think the powder drawer will stay as is, I can only see it peeling off if re-sprayed.
Now for the next restoration, ho, I’ve done them all.
No the bearings need doing on the 95622 that’s next.
P.S. when are we going to see the 1828/02

It sure is what I had hoped for! But what 'I' hoped for is an irrelevance - so long as you are happy with it is all that matters and I think you are.
It really is a job well done and you couldnt have done much more to get it looking spick and span again. My attitude towards it now would be 'well its upto you now mate (mate being the machine) to stay in good nick!'.
The L5EGB is of a more traditional contsruction, when compared to an 18-series. The The lid and facia will come off and, once the gubbins and door are removed, whats left will effectively be a wider 'anything thats not a Hotpoint 18-series' bodyshell.
It already has a new door seal ready and waiting....

Back to 18-series talk....
I have grown fully accustomed to the less than white powder drawer facia covers and they really arent too detrimental to the overall appearance of the machines.
As you mention, by not repainting means that you wont have to worry about paint peeling. I am sure that you will have enough to keep you worried, without adding the powder drawer to the equation too. lol.
Re my 1828/02 - its all a bit daft.
It has had its kickstrip repainted, courtesy of my dad.
It has been plumbed in and it made a little puddle on the floor. It has had a replacement door seal fitted, but I am scared to try it again in case it confirms that its something more serious.
Sort of 'what I dont know wont hurt me' syndrome.
As such, I just keep putting plugging and plumbing it in off.
I will have to treat a rust blister that has appeared on the top of the front panel, which luckily is currently hidden by the facia panel.
The fight to preserve has started.
Oh also, if you ever get a matching 17series dryer and intend to stack it on top of your machine, put a protective covering on top of the machine before hand.
The bloody bloody bloody b0LL0cky wheels and studs have left lovely scratch marks in the enamel and it kills me a little, each time I see it.
My relationship with the 1828/02 is therefore emotionally a tad complicated.

I wonder if it’s the pressure vessel, apparently a common fault which led to the demise of many 18’s
Some thing to look at in the future then, not to long hopefully.

Looks and sounds great Lee!
Motor sounds just like mine does - you can certainly detect the difference in the sound between the old and newer 95 era motors.

Rinse number one followed by pump and distribute then a short spin at the full speed which is 750rpm. Bit of sudslock.
