Machine number 2

A one picture reveal of another recent machine.

This time its a timeline Hotpoint 15790 Super De Luxe.
Due to the hassles involved with moving top loaders, I am afraid that there wont be any updates soon for this machine. Mechanically restored it, like all our machines, awaits a day when they can be moved to a more permanent home.

making it a perfect match for out 17221 compact dryer, which was made in exactly the same month of 1983...

Glad you like the pics and the machines and thanks for commenting.

Even though it isnt a GEC machine, as you say Lee, its nice to see the name 'Liberator' on a front loading automatic again. Fingers crossed that someone will find a GEC Liberator one day.

Its a shame that we cant get the 15790 out to play - they are a pain to move, if you havent got a van. One day i will get a film of that timeline ticking across.

some of you will have this piccy before, of the elctron that i bought for scrap from an understanding repair shop....

and here are the internals. not too mucky, but the cleaning will be left till its repair work is done....

and too the back. will we need a new backplate?!!! as you will be able to see from the right hand side of the chassis, in this picture, this machine has had one hell of a long term leak.
It will be resprayed in the fullness of time, to undo the work of the leak...

and the machine gets to look like the more usual round door electron....sans its chrome door trim!

This was removed due to it being far too beaten up to be restorable. it was covered in small dings and stains.

It was only removed however due to the kind offer of a new replacement! thanks mate.

unfortunately the old glue...sorry cement...used to attach it is a bitch to get off. it will have to be gently broken off in bits, before we can apply the new door trim.....

the only blemish on the facia is the small white streak of something on the powder drawer facia. dont know what it is and havent been brave enough to apply anything to try and get it off. i dont want to do any damage, as the facia has come up an absolute treat. think i might leave the blemish rather than run the risk of damaging it myself....

and a small amount of rust just under the bottom of the door seal. drum bearings are solid as a rock...

mathew attaches the water pipes to the back of the machine.

he also reattached a new electric cable to the machine, as the old one had been cut right at the bodyshell of the machine....

a short burst of special treatments, before the machine reached creaseguard.
in fact it surprised us all - it hardly did anything before hitting creaseguard...

Awesome Electron Paul!

My grandmother bought one of these machines second hand when her Servis SupaTwin died and was sent into the shed for me to play with.

It was a slightly different colour, more a lighter grey colour. It also had a delay start dial, slightly smaller just next to the programmer. We never used the powder drawer button. The drawer was just as easily opened by pulling on the bottom (grandma had long nails so was easy enough for her). Oh the memories. It never had a chrome strip around the door, this was lost by its previous owner so its weird seeing one with it attached, the pic with it removed is much more familiar to me.

Hope this one lasts a while :-) i think it was the timer that went on grans in the end, coz we had to move it along manually to each stage :-)

sounds like your gran had an electricity board special version of the round door electron.

as your memories tell you, it would have had a smaller delay hours dial, to the left of the main programmer dial, so that the owner could delay the start of the machine till later evening or overnight. taking advantage of the 'economy 7' electricity.

glad it has jogged the memories for you.

me and rob are really pleased with how the machine turned out.
once mechanical restoration is carried out on it, i am sure it will be a fine machine.

you mention the powder button. i was really surprised by this as, on this machine, it actually works! generally they seized up or simply broke.
as you say, you could get round it simply by grabbing the underneath of the facia. happen a good job, judging by the reliability of this particular piece of style over substance.
would have caused hoover many a headache were there no other way to open the drawer.

second VIDEO!

here the machine performs its 800rpm spin.

the motor bearings need work doing to them, which will be dealt with when it reaches its turn in the restoration queue - there are so many in that queue now, its geting a bit mad.

Also, all the wobbling as it comes down from spin is due to being on very uneven ground at the back of mikes house. Also, I feel it will need a new suspension arm on the left - thats the side affected by rust from the leak....

 
here be the drum - still in good condition, for the amount of work it will have done over its general working life...

here it is on the final day of mikes wekend.

its still over at his place, due to my car bringing back the electra A2E04 washer and D6E06 dryer.

we will get it out from under your feet soon mike!

PS. If you have any photos of drum bearing repairs on Hotpoint 95’s would it be possible to see them as my 95622 is a bit sick.
