hotpoint washer help

Hi guys an girls. i know a fair bit about washers but am really stuck at the moment. Went to look at a friends machine its a hotpoint, well ariston, its 17 months old and it wont stop filling with water when the machine is switched on. Its one of the new models that only has a cold fill pipe. I have changed the inlet valve, checked the pressure switch and all contacts. Have looked on the main board and nothing appears to be burnt out. I am bit old school when it comes to washers so i am not big up on PCB's....

It will go through the full cycle no problems but ii have to keep switching the water feed off when it reaches the correct level.. any help would be appreciated. many thanks in advance...

Some questions :

1)if you leave the tap opened, doesn't the overflow safety pressure switch engage the drain pump when water level is over 2/3 of the glass ?

2) when you close water feed, does the washer stop at 1st rinse fill (PCB should wait for proper level signal from pressure switch, that doesn't arrive cause the tap is closed) ?

3) have you checked the wire(s) connecting press switch and valve/PCB ? Is/are it/they working ?

4) Is the drain pipe end higher than the porthole ? if not, syphoning may occurr (---> loop, simultaneous drain and fill)

5) Does it keep on filling even with no clothes inside ?

6)If #5 doesn't happen, does the fill start/stop now and then in the first 10 mins while washing full loads ?

Sorry, questions 4-5-6 are obvious , I'm only trying to find out all the clues.

I'd rather guess it has to do with #3 (broken wires)

Hi Rob,

Well obviously the most obvious thing which I pressume you have checked is the pressure hose and and have cleaned the sump out as blockages can cause the same symptoms.

I have known the contacts on these pressure switches to burn out, blowing down the switch (although not advised) will enable you to hear the switch contacts change, however only with a meter on the contacts will you really learn anything about the continuity of the switches.
I have actually opened the switch up, it is only clipped together, only to give me confidence in the repair, however be very carefull when doing this though.

This does not sound a typical module fault at all but certainly check wiring contacts down to the board with a meter.

Hi, Even on spin it will fill up with water if i leave the water pipe turned on. As soon as the start button is pressed the water just keeps filling regardless of what programme its on.

FAVORIT, yes the pump kicks in when the water level fills half way to the door. I have checked all the wiring and there is no break in the connection all the way to the board.

BERTRUM, hi, pressure switch is fine no problems with it. i really have this horrible feeling its going to be a problem with the main board so will have to remove it and have a proper inspection.

Just dont like these new machines there is very little in them to service properly just a few wires and a board lol cheeers guys for your input..
