Hotpoint wd61 washer dryer

Hello. on Wednesday I picked up a Hotpoint wd61. It is a lovely machine for me. The washer came from a local scrapheap and paid a jar of jam for it!!!!! All that was wrong with it was the plastic in the door was smashed and the door seal was a bit spotty.. Yesterday I tried it and it worked like new. It is not replacing anything so I am scratching my head for plans. I have only tried it on the spin as putting it on a dry cycle on a glorious day would be a bit wasteful.

slight correction...

It was _destined_ for the scrap heap - it came from our local wm shop as scrap. We just asked and I was very lucky to get it.

I got brave and took the lid off. It looks ok. There are 2 on ebay

My Aunt had a WD22 from 1995. Wonderful that machine was, it was my favourite in the family. Contrary to looks there might be something wrong with it, but if there isn't then what a waste of a well built machine sitting in the scrap. Check the drum for movement, try the dryer etc. Replace the seal and you should be good to go.

Yes the door seal will need replacing at somepoint in time but how does the Aquarius wash system work?

Something missing

Hi,good machine for a jar of jam and just as sweet.Looks to have had little use,a spot of bleach and a ascubbing brush should sort out the door seal or cheap enough new of Ebay.Just 1 important thing ,in your photo of the washer with lid off the rear drum restraint spring appears to be missing.There should be spring at the rear of the drum similar to the one at the front,it may have come off in transit so you might find it in the base of the machine somewhere,it should be fitted otherwise dryer duct will rub at the front.Anyway it,s always good to save a washer.Good luck with it Regards Nige.

That's a good find! It may have ended up on the scrapheap, despite it working due to the owner upgrading and not bothering to put it on eBay, particularly if its drying cycle works (the reason why many washer dryers end up in the junkyard). The only issues are the door seal and lack of a heat shield.

I've had relatives who have had Hotpoint washer dryers (99 series) but I've never seen a Hotpoint like this one on a drying cycle. Could you film it please?

Since this machine is a Hotpoint, might it need motor brushes? When we found my Creda, brushes were all it needed. Are these machines fairly slow at drying? Does it have an air circulator to move the air around inside the drum or does it just depend on the drum baffles and the tumbling load to move the air around? I dont actully know,

I tried it on a dry cycle but then started to make weird noises so I am am affraid to say I cannot tell you. The BIG problem is is that it keeps having trips. Any one got a sugestion???

worth mending?

I inherited one of these at the end of last year. I'm in two minds whether it's worth keeping, as so many things are going wrong on it. On the plus side, each thing seems to be reasonably easily mended. I'm a semi-retired female and I have learned in the last six months to replace the condensor/capacitor, drum spider, drive belt, tighten the concrete weights and now, I think the brushes need replacing as one of them seemed to have got dislodged after the last energetic spin. I've pushed it back in and it is working again, but there is an odd noise from the motor as it spins. Your photo of the top off inspired me to join this forum as that is what mine looks like at the moment!
I would like to know how you managed to get the machine from the dump. Where I live, the dump is well run but try to rescue something and you feel like you are trying to rob the Bank of England!

Ahhh

The real story was that I want to be an Eingineer for washing machines so I thought about getting a scrap washer to take apart and get working . However this one actully worked so I thought for a washer that I only payed a jar of jam was a bargan.

Hi Christopher

Just a quick thought regarding the dry cycle. Im not 100% sure but I think to use the dryer it will require cold water to condense so the cold water supply needs to be working when using the dryer. You may already have done this but just thought I would mention it.
