This picture was took after the wash.It was rinsing when i took this picture.It did have bold 2in1 powder in the big compartment.
 
Hi yes, i remember these machines very well, as my family had the wm64 in natural linen colour-cream. My gran had one, my aunt and us!

It was ok but it was fun to mess about with as when it was on interim spin you can tust push the dial lightly forward but don't let the dial tick so it's just leaping forward and the pump turned off through distrbution and the beginning of spin then it would slow down and the pump would turn on again. It was like a manual spin rinse! Fun to watch!

But the machine wasn't that good as many cycles were the same!
We all always used D or E Cottons 60oc or 40oc! And sometimes wool or quick wash which was J on the wm64!
Well all my family's machines (3) have now gone broke down due to problems with bearing, programmer and due to the drum going bezerk and went on an angle! LOL, made a lot of noise!

Ours makes a banging noise occasionally.I think it is a suspension arm.It never balances and once hit the door so i had to turn it off!
 
Oh, I'd be surprised if that were the case David. No disrespect to these Hotpoints which were fine machines, in many respects, but I think that they would have lost the plot altogether if there were no oob at all.

Even our WM25 from 1996 had oob, in so much as it would stop and redistribute / refuse to spin one jumper etc. But it still did all the sudslocking / water slapping / occasional banging even with this system LOL.

They weren't perfect machines but I'd still rather have one from that era than a current offering from Indesit/Hotpoint. Our WM25 lasted just under 10 years, and I think my folks only swapped it because they could stand the noise no longer. (They bought the basic `John Lewis special' Miele and couldn't be happier :-))

To be fair, the WM did have a few service call outs during this time but from what I've heard on here you'd be lucky if any of the recent stuff would reasonably last that long.
 
Personally I preferred the 70s, when Hotpoints had 3 decent suspension legs and would spin bath mats or one towel or anything with nothing more than a little `knock' on initial spin ramp. I know, I owned the machine on the link below a couple of years ago (now RobM has it) and I really tried to throw it off balance. Not to be `cruel', but just out of curiosity. It wasn't having it ! You can see a spin ramp at about 2:20.

Nice machine.

I always liked those design of Hotpoints.Modern looking but with a hint of vintage still.

I have a WM41 as my everyday machine and it does have a OOB sensor but not as sensitive as the ones you get these days. On occasion when its distributing and its very unbalanced it stops and redistributes and then goes into spin. Also if it senses its quite unbalanced when it's on lower speeds it won't ramp up to high / full speed but will stay at a lower speed.

It does still though still spin when quite unbalanced and have had the occassional famous Hotpoint "lurch". Our floors are modern fibreboard crap as it's a new house and this does not help with vibration at all. It was terrible so I screwed a piece of wood to the floor to help. It did help but it was still bad. Ive ended up raising the front feet so the machine is wedged between the floor and the kitchen worktop. This has sorted it.

Ours is supposed to stop and redistribute.It has done rarely.It just spins unbalanced anyway.It is jammed under a worktop and still manages to shake and move forward.
I am a fan of the WM41.Is it the microprofile?
 
My sister had the exact same machine as that. The wm53 in white! However hers had the older drawer interior, in that it had the removable softener dispenser at the back left, as apposed(sp?) to the one that you have which was fitted to aquarius and ultima machines as standard I do believe?

Anyway it was a fantastic machine, she got it given in about 2002, it had been run into the ground when she got it, but a maintenance wash and a scrub of the dispenser and exterior got it good as new.

I really loved this machine, did a good job of washing in a short time, made fab sounds and in regards to the Hotpoint 'lurch'. I cant recall it ever doing that, and it washed some fairly bulky loads including a 9tog double duvet!

It finally gave up the ghost in about 2006 when the belt kept falling off and then the drum bearings froze solid!
