crisper drawers..

I have yet to figure out why on so many vintage fridges, even ones otherwise totally complete and in use, the blasted crisper drawers are missing 90% of the time. In later models that had plastic drawers I suppose you could write it off the them somehow getting cracked or broken, but it tends to be older models that had the enamel over steel drawers that are missing them
Anybody else have a clue why this is?

Because....

When you let produce turn to grey, slimy goo in the crisper drawers, you're so disgusted that you throw the whole thing out.

The fact that you let produce rot like that indicates that you're not a housekeeper type and will never miss the crispers. :)

a revolting thought..

But probably true. My grandmother and aunts would have had a stroke at the thought of that sort of slovenly waste. My grandmother grew up extremely poor, and even though we weren't poor, she never forgot what it was to be hungry, and made sure we all knew the value of food and not a scrap went to waste in her kitchen.

I thought it was common sense that everyone knew, until I met my first mother in law, a hoarder with a fridge full of spoiling food and mold. She just kept buying more and more, far more than she needed, and then letting it spoil.

I remember that!!

I remember seeing a little plaque that said that in someone's kitchen when I was a little kid, I just don't remember who. Sadly it is true..
