Hello everybody, I've always wondered how lg washers and dryers are made, specifically their front loading sets for the American market. I understand they're made in Korea. What quality of materials do they use? For example, their direct drive motors, valves, pumps, outer tubs etc. How big are their direct drive motors in terms of size and thickness? As for their matching dryers, what type of belts and blower motors do they use? What is the quality of their materials? How big is their appliance manufacturing plant? This is specifically for their washers and dryers. Do lg washers and dryers use some sort of grease to keep them running smoothly?
Inquiring minds want to know.

What quality of materials do they use?
Good quality materials, just like any manufacturer.
For example, their direct drive motors, valves, pumps, outer tubs etc. As any other factory in the world (including the USA, of course) They have dozens of suppliers for parts because it simply doesn`t make any sense to make 100% of the parts for a washing machine. Some suppliers can even be the same suppliers as other famous brands.
How big are their direct drive motors in terms of size and thickness? Does it matter A bigger motor doesn't exactly mean it is better or stronger or will last longer.
As for their matching dryers, what type of belts and blower motors do they use? They use the type specified by the engineers for each specific model, just like any other manufacturer.
What is the quality of their materials? Good and Excellent. All washers have pros and cons. Even the best washer in the world has it's weak points and the worst washer in the world has it's good points.
How big is their appliance manufacturing plant? VERY big. They make not only for the USA, but for many other countries and also OEM for other companies.
This is specifically for their washers and dryers. Do lg washers and dryers use some sort of grease to keep them running smoothly? It is very difficult, if not impossible, to find a modern washer that uses grease.

Both LG and Samsung know how to make washers and they know it very well. Even the BOL models have more technology than traditional American brands like Whirlpool, specially on bells and whistles.

Both Samsung and LG invest a lot of money in new technologies and quality.

And just like any other washing machine in the world, someday they will break. What doesn't exist is a washing machine that will last 100 years without any failure.

TOL pairs

A prime example would be lg's TOL pairs with the turbo-wash. How long did it take to develop turbo-wash and 6motion? Some people say that their washers and dryers are poor in quality. How tough are their outer tubs? Aren't they the same as the plastic that is used to make football helmits?

Jerome, I thought Kirk R. said he worked with you at some point?
Did you not go around with him fixing appliance and taking them apart?

LG...

A few years ago,i took in a broken down fancy model LG washplate type topload made in 2012 in Korea:it had several problems that basicly rendered the machine FUBAR at only ~4 years old:washplate splines nearly stripped(design error IMO),failed seal, bad bearings, damaged(but still operable)BLDC motor. It also was starting to rust around the dispenser.I don't care for imports, but thought about fixing it- but with the too small splines design fault, junked the machine. The PC boards were all in plastic trays potted in poly resin-good for durability, bad for any PCB repairs...The drain pump was" Hanning werk GMBH"PM syncronus type.I saved good spare parts off the machine-will post model #later in case anyone needs parts :)

motor size and quality matters, and the invention of turbo w

Motor size and quality matters to me. If the lg washer and dryer have big drums, than the motors would be big and tough enough to accommodate them, and strong enough too.
What was behind the turbo-wash? How long did it take for lg to introduce it? How many resources did it take to invent it? Did they upgrade the pump design? How many engineers were involved?

I’ve disassembled hundreds

Quality overall is better than Samsung, and just slightly better than whirlpool.

Washers are pretty robust, and very easy to diagnose. Sorry I can’t give specific dimensions as I never bothered to measure. Everything seems appropriately sized, and I never, ever have seen a motor fail.

The dryers are nearly blatant copies of the front filter whirlpool dryer we all know and love. I’m surprised they never got sued for it.

Lorainfurniture

I Would only fix and sell the old school top load washers since they have better reliability, and they have a better wash action. I don't like the way newer appliances are made, or anything newer at all.

I have seen videos on YouTube of folks making homemade windmill power generators and storage batteries for home power systems. The windmill turns the motor from a scrapped machine and sends power to the battery bank-remember in appliance stores when you can spin the drum of an LG or Samsung washer and panel lights come on-and its theme music plays?BB salespeople HATE it when customers do this. But when spun the PM DD motor acts as a generator.Think of them like a giant Technics DD turntable motor.Flat, large in diameter.

Timed drainage during spin. Similar to the way their combos cycle the pump on and off every minute for ten seconds to drain water during the dry cycle.
