As you may have already seen, I have this 1994 White-Westinghouse FL washer and also this 1990 Kenmore version as well. I am planning to combine the best parts from both machines to make one good washer, since one is a bit rusty and the other has bad bearings or worse.

I am guessing I will have more questions later... but for now can you please tell me what is the best way (correct procedure) to remove the TIMER KNOB and rubber DOOR SEAL without destroying either of them??? I want to re-use them.

If you have ANY other tips or suggestions on taking these apart... all will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help!!!

The boot has to be pealed off the outer frame and pushed in toward the interior. You then need to remove all the screws holding the front panel with the door intacked.Set it aside and turn the machine on its side. There are screws holding the chasis on to the frame. They need to come off and with the body completely dissasembled, you'll have the complete chasis to work with.Seeing the interior drum from your photos,I recomend that you replace the drum.Rust was a major issue with that particular design.Once the porcelan is chipped, oxydation begins.Because most users refuse to leave the door ajar, the oxydation is escolated. Also,if you decide to replace either drum,be sure you check the outer tub and the sump where the water resides prior to pump out.Any debris that has accumulated such as coins, pins or clips will need to be removed.Otherwise, after reasembly, there's a posibility of that debris becoming a noise issue making a rattling sound during spin.Have fun!

Thank you Chuck!

So the door/tub seal is just a stretch fit? No sealant, glue or what ever? I will have to try it.

Do you know how to remove the timer knob? Does this one just unscrew (sorry, haven't tried yet - don't want to break anything).
