How do you add your soap into your washer?

Do you: spread it around the base of agitator? Put it right under the water inlet? Use a dispenser system like on Whirlpools or a GE DispensALL system? Put it in the middle of the agitator? Or do you have the drawer-type dispenser?

I've been experimenting with spreading it around the base of the agitator and putting it all underneath the water inlet.

I add it directly to the washbasket before adding clothes--sometimes in one spot, sometimes sprinkles around the basket...per Speed Queen's instructions. If I want some suds, I'll let the water run a bit on it, then add the clothes.

From 1971 thru 1997 I used a Lady Kenmore with an automatic detergent dispenser. My 1997 Sears 90 Series (which replaced the Lady Kenmore brand) also had an automatic detergent dispenser. Having switched to a FL in 2007 I continue to pour my detergent into the automatic detergent dispenser. However, during periods in my life (college, living in apartments, etc.) when I had to go to the laundrmat I would pour my detergent directly into the tub letting it dissolve in the water before adding my laundry. Also, when I did have a TL washer I would turn the water on, let about two inches of water build in the tub, add Clorox bleach, swish the agitator around then when the tub was about 1/2 filled with water I would add my white clothes. I always feared the automatic bleach dispenser might misfire and pour bleach all over a load of my dark clothing. Not a problem with the FL as the water fills up the bleach dispenser before dispensing bleach. Rinse waater subsequently flows thru the bleach dispenser afterward so there's no fear of any bleach luring around.

In my Maytag A806 I pour the detergent into the center of the agitator before inserting the lint filter, and softener dispenser. Bluing, ammonia, etc gets added after there is about an inch or 2 of water in the tub. When about 1/2 full, I put the laundry in, and let it rip.

Frigidaire Affinity front-loader with additive drawer, so I pour it into the dispenser and leave the inverted measuring cap in the dispenser while I load the washer. Then I wipe out the remaining detergent with the last item into the drum.

Admiralpool Top Loader

I start the wash fill, add detergent/soap under water inlet, let the water fill to about 1/4 full and add clothes.

In a top loader, I added detergent to the empty tub as it was filling and then added the clothes when about 1/4 to 1/2 full.

In the front loader, I put the detergent in the dispenser.

I add the clothes, start the washer and add the detergent directly under the the spray of water on my Maytag 606. Sometimes I pour it down the middle of the agitator.

LOL Sorry about the language barrier, no one in my corner of the world calls detergent, detergent. It's always laundry soap, dish soap, dishwasher soap etc... Is Bluing the whitening additive? (Sorry, we don't have that here lol)

I'm pretty sure I've heard people use the term "soap" when they should be using "detergent." Particularly older people, who were around in the soap-only era. And even I probably incorrectly use the term soap sometimes, when talking about the "bar of soap" in the bathroom when said product might actually be, if my understanding is correct, a form of detergent. (Although in my bathroom, you are likely to find some sort of real soap. I have skin issues, and I find that mass market "soap" seems to make things worse.)

My mother had a detergent dispenser on her washer, but--as far as I can remember--never used it. She'd just toss detergent in on top of the clothes, and let everything fight it out.

As for me, I'm only consistent in my inconsistency. Historically, I've been more likely to follow my mother's example. But there have been times when I've put the detergent in first. In either case, I just toss it in and let it fall where it may in the tub.

In my Indesit machine i use both powder and liquids. Powders go into the drawer but liquids go into the drum before the clothes either just poured in or in a dispenser ball. Reason is the water flow through the dispenser is not strong enough to flush the liquid fully away. Australia's Dynamo and Cold Power liquids are way too gluggy to be flushed away and these are the only two liquids i use

John, I have both detergent and soap flakes in my laundry arsenal, so if you ask for soap, you really do get soap. It usually confuses family if they're staying with me. At that point I just grab the Ultra Plus.

I hear you about the skin issues....that's how I got started with making my own, and it turned into quite a addiction hobby.

John:

In my younger days I would see ads in magazine (and I think maybe a few on TV) in which they called several brands "toilet soap". The same applied to fragrances labeled as "toilet water".

First thing that would come to my mind...EWWWWWW!

I usually pour mine on top of the clothes, under the water stream. This way I know it will start to dissolve even before agitation. Years ago when I used to use the Tide Tablets, the first time I made the mistake of putting them in first then the clothes. This resulted in tablets that weren't completely dissolved so I'd have to run another cycle. So after that I would put them between the clothes and the agitator to make sure they would get beaten and dissolved.
