How do you add your soap?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I've only owned front load machines with detergent drawers....so powdered detergent goes in the drawer....

....my aunt had an Australian made Hoover front loader without a dispenser so would load the clothes and then place her detergent in a mans hankerchief, twist the top and then place on top of the load - it keep the undisolved detergent off the washing and dispensed with the first tumble....It worked a treat.

exactly the way Mom did!

In the top loaders I've used I always added the detergent the way my mother did:  start the washer filling with HOT water, add the detergent and swish the agitator back and forth until the detergent is disolved then, unless it's going to be a hot wash, change to warm or cold water to finish filling as I add the clothes.   With my Neptune in the last house and a now a Duet here I use the dispenser and almost always wash in either warm or hot water.

Doesn't it get lost in the holes?...

I never put detergent in an empty tub, for fear it is wasted...

For the Westy, I open the door during the fill and put it in...

For the Amana/SQ, I usually pour it under the water stream, either on the clothes, or in the tub with at least 2 inches of water...

Bleach is always added after a few minutes in the wash cycle for either machine...

I never use that dispenser on the Amana/SQ...

I didn't pour in the detergent until there was a few inches of water in the tub and then pour it into the water stream.  Mom was convinced it would never fully disolve without her technique.

lovestowash......

I always thought that too! Although before I discovered this site, I didn't know there were 2 tubs in most washing machines, well, all of them now, but back then with the older models, I was always afraid that if the detergent went down the holes that it was gone for good. I guess now I don't have to fear that, but I still never put detergent into an empty tub. Force of habit I guess.

Despite my thinking that a Sears Kenmore 90-Series should be more was a "high-endy", my machine only has a Bleach Dispenser (not even anything in the center of the agitator for the Fabric Softener!)...!

So pouring it on the clothes while it's filling w/ the plastic scoop my detergent comes with (& trying not to get it wet as I put it back in the box, often finding the powder sticking to it) is usually the norm, unless I patiently wait for the machine to fill, then add it!

(Gotta get one of the new-fangled Automatic Dispensing jobs, that at least measure the Water Level for you...!)
